Nerdette Minute #25: Next Generation: Lady Layton!

Hey Gang!

 I actually put together a video for you guys, because when I get super excited I ramble, and I didn't want to do that in a text post. But here are a few of the highlights. Level - 5 is coming out with another Professor Layton game not only for the 3DS but also IOS and Android! In this game, which doesn't have a working English title yet. We play as Professor Layton's Daughter, Cattley who resides in London with her talking dog.

- How adorable is her Mini Top hat? I mean C'mon!

- Is her talking canine companion a nod to Luke?

- She seems so much more GUNGHO, than layton, who is more methodical.

- I might get her as a tattoo as well, her design is so adorable. *I think I'll play the game first though*.

- I fell so in love with her, I made a version of her hat, so I can cosplay her later. I'll upload the D.I.Y. later, and its so simple you guys! It literally only took me ten minutes, and I made it from things that were already in my house. Felt, Toilet Paper rolls, and Stretchy Headbands. I'm not sure if I'll do a vlog about it or just a written blog post but look for it soon! More footage of my hat is on Instagram.

Nerdette Minute #24: Return of the Caped Crusaders Trailer

Hey Gang!

 Oh My Goodness You guys! Happy Batman Day! I am so freaking excited. If you don't know, I am A HUGE fan of 66' Batman. As spoken in my GGB post, 60's Dick Grayson is the best Dick. I love that series. So campy and funny, the perfect breakaway when the newer comics get super dark. I even own the DVD of the Movie, and have my picture taken with Adam and Burt. So when my dad showed me that they were going to make an animated feature, I could barely hold my excitement.

 I'm apologizing in advance for the amount of fangirling I do in this video, just let it inform you about how hype I am ok?

Series #24: Gravity Falls: My Feelings after the Drop.

Hey Gang!

  I know I'm super late on this. I know Emily is smiling from Ear to Ear, because she's been trying to get me to watch Gravity Falls for a while. I finally started to watching it on hulu about a week ago, and today, Alex and I finished the Series. It was amazing. My mind is Blown, there is smoke coming out of my ears, and I'm having the exact same feels as Mystery Inc. Here's yet another show gone far too soon, and my heart aches for the fact that I'll never see the characters again. There are three things that Gravity Falls did well.

 1. Gravity Falls had amazing character development. Dipper and Mabel grew to love their surroundings and themselves. Soos gained self confidence and Mabel discovered that even though reality wasn't the greatest, that it was better spending it with someone who cares about her. Stanford and Stanley finally learned to settle their differences and follow their dreams. Heck, even Pacifica learned to be less snobby for the betterment of the world!

 2. The Supernatural/Scifi/ and mystery tilt to the plotline was phenomenal. The continuity was glorious and every episode lead to something else. The clues were so epic, and I got chills every time Dipper added something to the journals. You could tell there was something great coming up every time they discovered a new creature. The story was so well written, and they are definitely right about hindsight being 20/20. And the references, all the references. Twin Peaks, Aladdin, Aliens, and so so so much more. Love a cartoon with story arcs, it even got a few tears out of me. Gravity Falls definitely deserves a slot on my list of favorite cartoons of all time.

3.Gravity Falls Villains put Scary Movies to Shame. Now I have watched some creepy cartoons, I'm a huge fan of Adventure Time for instance, but Gravity Falls sure does take the cake. Bill was like the perfect villain. He claimed to be the muse to geniuses, and then used their brain power for his own evil deeds. What could be scarier than that? Most people think they're safer if there smart, and in this, they were the most vulnerable! There were many episodes that I had chills! Particularly the Spider people episode. I was cringing pretty much the whole time. It was an even split between the Black widow wanting to eat men, and Grunkle Stan and Dipper's flirting skills. The Mini Villains and the unique creatures that make up Gravity Falls were pretty awesome/scary too. I wasn't sure which was scarier. Robbie's parents chipper outlook of funeral planning, or the zombies running loose.

 You guys! I loved Gravity Falls So MUCH! The theme song is stuck in my head, I'm talking to Emily about my thoughts now that its over, and I'm looking up merchandise that I can wear when I nerd out. Suffice it to say, Gravity Falls is definitely one of those series, that make you go "Damn, that was good." If you haven't had the opportunity to see it, go watch it now. The entire 2 season series is available on Hulu.

My Prophecy Dream about Game Of Throne's Ending.

Hey Gang!

 Emily is back with another post for you! Make sure you read all the way to the end so you can support her on all her social media.

 I know how Game of Thrones is going to end! I had a dream about it. Daenerys is going to war with Cersei, and knows she is going to win, but realizes that she is not cut out for ruling in Peaceful times from her experienes at Meereen, but knows that Cersei will make a terrible Ruler.
 So she and Tyrion decides that Sansa should sit on the Iron Throne after they find her in a battle. Sansa agrees and plans for John SNow to rule in the North. They are all waiting for him to come o King's Landing when cersei uses some kind of evil magic.
  This is the moment when cartoon Characters from the All Star Rescue Special come alive and start helping Daenerys and Sansa fight off Cersei, and for some reason King's Landing looks like my Grandparents farm.

This is how I truly believe Game of Thrones will end.

The Silver Codex: A thought Process

Hey Gang!

 This isn't a review! Please don't look at this as a book review, because I don't do those. Just think of this as my thought process after I finished the book okay?

  I'd been working on this book for a while. When my friend Emily sent me the link to purchase, I deliberated for about a week before I went ahead and bought it. Money was pretty tight, and I hadn't bought anything else, so I was trying to justify the purchase, to my wallet. Then I decided, its a novel my friend wrote, and published herself on Amazon. This is the purchase of a lifetime.
 When I asked Emily what it was about, She said and I quote. A mythical goddess, finds a human to write down battles among other mythical creatures, and demons, in a codex for fear. Just like you, I probably tilted my head to the side was like hmmm. Haven't heard that one before. If you haven't had the wonderful opportunity to meet my friend Emily, She is a wildly imaginative person, who may come off as a unique taste to some, but for me, when I met her in the cafeteria, she's right up my alley.

  There are three things I can definitely say I liked about the book. 1.) The diversity of the characters. There were characters of all kinds in the book, not only skin colors and cultures, but also personalities. It covered a wide spectrum. 2.) I loved the fantastical and supernatural slant to the story, it was so real I could taste it! You met so many things. Vampires, Animorphs, Goddesses, Demons, Just super evil human beings, sweet human beings, and parents. There were a lot of parents in this book, which is a pretty rare find in the novels that I read.  3.) The way the characters defended themselves. Each person good or bad had a justification to why they were the way they were. Even thought the side of evil, was pretty damn evil, I could still see their point on a few issues, I don't know what that says about me, but now its out there, and I can't take it back.

My favorite Characters were Hanlowa, the Goddess of Horror Stories, and Lunette, the best friend. Most people expect the main character to be the favorite, but Xarissa didn't really do a lot for me. The development of the character is very good, she eventually grows to be a touch likeable, but in my opinion, she was just a big wimp. Which is probably why Hanlowa chose her, so she could toughen up.
  One of the biggest things to surprise me about this novel, was that there was so much death. So much loss of life. Which is one of the biggest reasons it took me so long to finish it. Just like with Jessica Jones, I had to take breaks here and there for self care. Emily is such a happy and upbeat person, I was taken aback by how much death she'd written in.

  I have given The Silver Codex 4 out of 5 Shurikens. (This is my book scoring system just roll with it.). If you enjoy Fantasy, Myths and Horror. This is the book for you. If you want to read something unique, that you won't find from anyone else. This is the book for you. If your favorite color is Silver. This is the book for you. What I'm saying is, since the book is so wide and there are so many stories, and characters to grab onto, literally anyone would find enjoyment in this book. Anyone can find something about it, that speaks to them. I commend Emily for creating such a gem.

Comics Roundup #25: Falling in love with Lumberjanes Vol. 1

Hey Gang!

  I'm back from the library and I've got a basket full of books. One of the cool things about my particular library is that they have an amazing area of comics and graphic novels. I brought home quite a few, because I hadn't had the chance to stop by the comic book shop, so this was the next best thing.
 Today, I'm talking about Lumberjanes Vol. 1. I'm a little sad that I hadn't picked up the 2nd volume, because I pretty much devoured it. I was so sad when it was over, and I'm a little angry at myself for not reading it sooner. I was pretty much invested by the 10th page. I'm practically itching to go back and get the next couple of volumes, and now I'm eagerly waiting to read their crossover with Gotham Academy.
  I loved pretty much everything about this volume but there were three things that really spoke to me. 1. The supernatural slant to the story, not only where they out and about in the woods, where legit scary movies are dreamed up, but there are mythical beasts, things with more than two eyeballs, and shapeshifters. You know I love a good mystery, but something that slides in at a close second? Fantasy and Supernatural stories. Lumberjanes seems to have a bit of both, which just makes me smile. 2. The way its written is glorious. The story is probably the most female friendly I've read in years. All the girls personalities shine through Stevensons and Ellis Storytelling. 3. The Way the girls talk.  Where in the Joan Jett where you guys?I chuckled so much. I love that all of their expressions are women role models. So far, I've seen Phillis Wheatley, Joan Jett and Mae Jemison. If you don't know who these awesome ladies are, I have included wikipedia links for all of them.
  My Favorite Character so far is April. I feel like she is my patronus. (I've gotten in trouble for using the term spirit animal so don't use it anymore!) Her style is absolutely adorable. She's fearless and has the intelligence and apparently the strength, to back it up. She took out a talking statue, This chick is bad ass. She has been added to my list of future cosplays.
  I pretty much loved everything about the story, and love that even thought it a group of characters, that each of them have the chance to shine. I am actively looking for the next volumes, and I'm so glad that I thought ahead, and bought the first two issues of their crossover series with Gotham Academy!

August Favorites!

Hey Gang!

 2016 has just been zooming by! Where is the time going? I can't believe it's already September!! At this rate, October and my favorite holiday, Halloween will be right around the corner!!! Here are a few of the things I enjoyed about August.

- I have had the tunes: Never Let Me Go + Too Much Is Never Enough by Florence and The Machine on repeat almost the entire month.

- I participated in my very first pin-up shoot this month. Done by the amazing Lady Creepin, Alex and I traveled to Columbus for this endeavor, I can't wait to get the pictures back!

- Nerdette At Large now has 60 followers on Bloglovin!! I've been gaining traction for the past couple of months and I'm so thankful for it! It feels so good to know that people are enjoying my content!

- Falling in love with Lumberjanes. I don't know why it took me so long to read it, but since I finished Volume 1 I've been itching for more. April is my Patronus. She has definitely earned a spot on my cosplay list.

- Being part of the Wedding Party for the first time. I was so nervous that I was going to mess something up. It's not my day, and it was my job to make sure that her day went smoothly, man that was a serious amount of stress. I had fun being such a special part of someone's day, but I don't know if I want to do that again. I don't do well in stressful situations.

- I did quite a bit of traveling this month. I drove up to Sandusky, OH for a business meeting, it was pretty neat, and then Columbus Ohio for a bit to do a photoshoot. I didn't really take pictures of the surroundings, but I had a blast. It had been a while since I had roadtripped/traveled anywhere, so it was nice to be back in my car, jams on the speakers and enjoying the open air surroundings.

- I got engaged, and my ring arrived. I won't go into too much detail right now, but there will definitely be a blog post later.
