Call for June Sponsors

May 28, 2014

It's time for a nice sized overhaul over here at Vulcan Sugar and Spice. June is on its way bringing hot summer weather, my 10 day roadtrip and of course space for NEW sponsors! I haven't had an open call for sponsors in a while. With the summer on its way, I've got way more free time to literally spend just on my blog! Which I'm extremely excited about, so if you are interested in sponsoring Vulcan Sugar and Spice, please visit my completely revamped sponsor page.

Til Next Time!

Lately

May 21, 2014

 Hello Lovelies,
Lately, I've been on a binge. A binge to save/make more money. I've been picking up more hours at work, staying later, trying to save more money for this huge trip that Alex and I will be taking in a matter of 5 weeks and 3 days. This Road tripping endeavor is going to be a huge undertaking, and I'm beyond super excited to begin creating an inventory and start packing, but I just can't shake the feeling that something's going to happen just like the Chicago trip we tried to take around Valentine's Day. (I honestly don't remember what stopped us, I just remember not being in Chicago.)
To save money, I've been cutting down on what I've been up too lately. So very little clothes shopping unless they are on (Crazy hot super cheap sale), not going out as much, bought groceries (Haven't been eating out lately), been spending my off days either at home watching movies and playing video games ( Thief is currently in the ps3) or at my parents (taking gleeful advantage of the free wi-fi). Which is great for my Alice in Wonderland wallet, but not really great for giving me writing material for the blog. It honestly hasn't been that long since I've updated, but it still feels like I'm letting people down. (Shrug, We all know I'm weird you just have to go with it at this point.)
There is a Family Video literally down the street from the Chemical Syndicate, and I am so excited about it! I can literally rent movies for a whole week for practically nothing!! So far, I have been watching the following:

- The Great Gatsby
- Kill Your Darlings (A NEW FAVORITE!)
- Her (Made me bawl uncontrollably, and incredibly unattractively into Alex's t-shirt)
- I, Frankenstein (Action kept me from falling asleep)
- Romeo + Juliet (Chuck from Gossip Girl not Leonardo Di Caprio)
- Star Trek: Into the Darkness
- Scooby Doo: 13 Ghostly Tales Disc 1 + 2
- The Vow
- Prisoners (Not a fan of the ending)
- 21
- Prometheus
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Trying to get the Roomie and Alex prepared for the theater)
- Beautiful Creatures
- Gangster Squad ( I will finish it, this I decree!!!)

I've also been adding things to my For Sale tab in the navigation bar if you hadn't noticed. I've got a HP touchpad, practically new, with charger and Case for sale $125, and a slew of Gauges that I no longer need! I've also put up some more knitted/crocheted goods up there as well, so make sure you guys check that out and support VSS! There is also Ad space available for the Month of June coming up pretty soon! Email emeraldarachnid@gmail.com for more info; like pricing and sizes!

Welp, I think that's all the updating I have for you guys today.
Until Next time Stay nerdy,

Knitting? You still do that?

May 14, 2014

 Howdy Partners!
I headed up to Meijers the other day with my family and wouldn't you know it? They had yarn on CLEARANCE! I couldn't believe it, The most expensive ball of yarn I picked up was only 2.54! The one thing I don't like about yarn clearance is usually its the yarns that no one wants. The texture of the yarn is really rough or weird feeling, or it's because It looks like someone already used it and then rolled it back together, it just doesn't look enticing. This was not the case with that day's clearance yarn, I don't know why they lowered the prices but I was sure happy that they did! I know its been a really long time since I've written anything having to deal with yarn or crafting or anything even close to that effect, but like I've said before, I've got a hell of a lot more free time now.
Even though this spring/summer is starting to out to be a really hot one, yesterday it was 80 degrees over here. I plan of using my free time to get some projects done. I never finished Alex's scarf, Gi's still complaining about her watermelon pillow I "promised" her months ago. I've let a lot of projects slide, which is why I closed my shop, I couldn't bear people waiting on me while I lost interest in their projects. But If you haven't already noticed the for sale link in my navigation bar, the shop is back and looking better than ever. I'm so excited to get started creating new nerd-centric knitted fashions for ALL! As pictured I also picked up a knitting gauge, I figured not everything should be freeform. Maybe with some of my free time, I'll actually learn to read a pattern. *Shrug* Even though it had been a while since I did anything knitty, My fingers were practically itching to get started on something new, I can't wait til I get off work tonight to get started.

Are you guys excited to start a new project?

Comics Roundup #3: Free Comic Book Day and Snuggles at the Drive In.

May 12, 2014

 Hello Lovelies,
This past Saturday was Free Comic Book Day. It was a great day. The weather could have been a little bit warmer since it was the start of may, and the shop we decided to go to, made the "super awesome" decision to host it's 50 cent comic book sale in a tent outside, I'm shocked people, the tents and comics weren't blown away, the winds were so strong I was honestly waiting to look up from my box and see the tent rolling down the road resembling tumbleweed.
Every Comic in the tent was 50 cent a piece, and it wasn't like it was boxes upon boxes of shitty comics either, I got some serious Grade A number ones! All in All I spent about 50 bucks. I have a Fuck ton of comics to get through now, I might actually need to get a new comic box. I separated the comics into three piles. #1's, The Rest, and Free. I have a total of Four #1's written by Gail Simone in my collection (She's my Favorite) I love my sister to death, and although she has a huge soft spot in her heart for Batman, comic books aren't really her scene. I took her with me and Alex, because it was free comic day and I felt like it really should have been a family day, BUT she complained the whole time we were in the tent. It got to the point to where she left her comics with me, and just sat in the car, and I didn't even get half way through all the boxes they had available, before her and Alex both complained! Next time, I'll go by my damn self.
After that, we went to our regular comic shop to pick up my regulars, but some of them weren't THERE! I love my regular shop, but if I don't get there on Wednesday I can pretty much kiss them goodbye... It makes me sad, that to keep up with my regular rotation, sometimes I have to stop by other shops, and it totally makes me feel unloyal. So once I caught up on a good portion of my regulars and started a new one (Rocky and Bullwinkle) Alex and I headed to the Drive in!
We were totally excited about a double feature of  The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and RoboCop. However, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn't live up to my expectations, (No Spoilers promise) A lot of things happened that I didn't like, and even though it followed the comic, I didn't like how they did it, sadly, it just didn't do it for me. Don't even get me started on Robocop, the Only reason we stayed was because I knew Alex really really wanted to see it. (He's such an adorable dork.) All in All, it was a fun experience, he enjoyed himself, pretty much cementing the decision that we'll be back very soon! We took his inflatable mattress and all of my bed linens we were mighty comfortable!

Handheld Mistress #24: What's in my Yoshi Bag?!

May 6, 2014

Since I'm only working one job at the moment it's given me plenty of extra free time. Time to spend with Alex, time to spend playing video games, and more time to write about it! I'm always up for getting more organized. So I went out to Best Buy with Alex and picked up a Yoshi 3DS pouch. It has two zippers, and a mesh pouch. I keep all of the games that I play the most often in the mesh pouch. Right now those are:
- Project X Zone
- Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
- Professor Layton: Miracle Mask
- Dead or Alive: Dimensions
- Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate
- NEW Super Mario Bros.
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
- Professor Layton: Last Specter
- Metal Slug 7
- Tetris Axis
- Pokemon X
- Professor Layton: Diabolical Box
- Doctor Lautrec and Paris Knights.
- The World Ends With You
I really love this particular pouch, because it's not trying to be a purse. It is compact enough to keep everything I need to fully enjoy my 3DSXL on the Go! I don't have to worry about losing or leaving something somewhere, everything is in its spot and I can pick it up and drop it in my purse and keep it moving, which is good because I am forever on the go.

Do you guys have pouches or bags to hold your handheld devices? The convo continues on TWITTER!

Keep it Nerdy!
Til Next time,

Nomination? *Hyperventilation*

May 2, 2014

This girl has been nominated for a Liebster award by Rochelle over Chic Geek! If you aren't in the know, a Liebster award is for bloggers and given by bloggers to manifest friendship in the blogging community. I've seen them before but I've never had one! I feel so special right now, like I should have prepared a thank you speech or something. I guess answering the questions that came along with the nomination will be enough, I hope. So lets get this show on the road!

1. )  If you could have any superpower what would you pick and why?
I'm pretty sure this is the age old question of nerdettes everywhere. I'm pretty sure I've been having this conversation since I was like 6. Surprisingly, unlike my profession, the answer hasn't changed. I've always wanted to be immortal. I don't even have to have youth. I'd be ok with aging. Just REAL SLOW, like I'd age a year every 15 for mere mortals, or something to the effect. Lives are so short, so fleeting, I would adore to have all the time in the world. I don't know what I would do with it, I'll be honest but I would love to have this ability.

2. )  What things inspire you or what do you do to feel inspired?
I am inspired by the weirdest things honestly, Kitchy drawings, comic book art, a drop of paint where it shouldn't be, a cats' meow, it honestly doesn't matter, if it catches my eye, I'm interested and therefore inspired by it. Specific things that inspire me? Adam Hughes Art, anime, bright colors and tattoos.

3. ) If you could teleport to anywhere in the world right now where would you go?
Teleporting used to be one of my top five wished for special powers. When I was younger I wanted to use it to visit the world, and to get out of sticky situations. Now as a 22 yr old adult? I just want to use it to save on gas. It's like 4$ a gallon,  it is beyond ridiculous. I would probably go to Paris or London. Teleporting would be a great way of getting around the city without contributing to the smog with double decker busses.

4. ) If you could meet anyone living or dead who would you choose and why?
Can I just say, that she has chosen like the best five questions of all time? Answering these have taken up half of my day! This is one of my favorite questions of all time, there are so many people I would like to meet. This is why my wished superpower would have come in handy. I don't know if I could choose just one person. So I think I'll do one dead and one alive. Alive would be Adam Hughes and Dead would be Bettie Page, these are just ones that I thought of immediately, but I know had I been given more time, I would have had an entire list on both sides. Adam Hughes, because I would like him to design one of my future tattoos and sign something because his art is literally one of the most beautiful things that I've seen in a really long time. Josephine Baker, because I literally have women like her, Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page, for the body positive way I carry myself.

5. ) What's your dream job?
I'll attack this question two ways. An actual Job, that I might be able to actually get in this lifetime? Probably a "famous" photographer or A museum Curator. Something with a lot of travel. Sounds absolutely amazing. A Job, that may exist but you can't apply by calling and or sending out your resume? Head or Part of an all female spy/assassin team. P.s. I've wanted this to be my profession since I was six.

I would just like to thank Rochelle for nominating me for this award. Now for my 5 nominations.
Crystal at Geek Pinata
Jamilah at Girl Gone Geek
Mia at XO Mia
Dany at It's Suteki
Carmen The Ninja

My 5 questions are:

1. ) If you could re-write any historical event, what would you choose and why?

2. ) If you could be president for one year, what would you implement, what would you change, who would you kill?

3. ) You are a blogger, which cause do you wish you could fix, or bring awareness to?

4. ) If you could have one food for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

5. ) Who is your role model? and why?
