5 days of Halloween: Totoro

October 29, 2015

Hey Gang!
Today I was Totoro, your friendly wind Guardian Chinchilla. Unfortunately, it didn't go over very well. Not a lot of people knew who the character was, so people just thought I was a mouse. *sigh* In their defense, maybe the ears were a bit small. I made them from an old t-shirt and stitched them on the machine, when I turned them inside out for stuffing, they really shrank! I think if I did this costume again, I would most definitely draw a much larger pattern. I'd rather them be to big then too small. I used Nyx felt tip liner for the nose and whiskers and my cat eyes.

What have you dressed up as this week? I'd love to see! SO let me know in the comments below.

5 Days of Halloween: Peppermint Butler

October 28, 2015

Hey Gang!
Today I was Peppermint Butler, it didn't go over very well. Mostly because I don't think people watch Adventure Time where I work. No one seemed to know who I was supposed to be, and then the other half didn't really ask at all. They probably just thought I was really weird. Over all I liked it, and that's all that matters right? I changed the red bowtie instead to put in my hair and I think it looked better and more girly that way. I made the triangles on the side of my face with red lipstick and they stayed pretty darn well. A little too well. My face is a little red from all the scrubbing,

 Stay Nerdy,

I am Swimming in Fabric!

Hey Gang!

Pokemon, sanrio, Keroppi, Adventure TIme, Star Trek, Star Wars, Tilly and the buttons Simplicity\

Boy you guys, Joann's must have my payday on a calendar! Everytime on the time I get paid, they send me an email with a whole slew of coupons in it for the weekend, I don't work on the weekend, so they know there isn't anything stopping me from visiting them and probably leaving with something. Needless to say, I always leave with something, and now Alex has banned me from getting any more. He thinking he can ban me from the fabric shop? My 2nd favorite place to be? So instead of the ban, he has imposed that I make one project a week. At first I laughed, like I love you, but dude, I'm grown , I DO WHAT I WANT, but then I thought about it, and I was like hey, that's kind of genius. So I plan on doing just that, and tell you guys about it at least once a week with a post, or a youtube video perhaps. About Youtube, I know there haven't been any videos in a while, but I wasn't feeling pretty enough (I know so stupid!) to vlog, but I plan on getting a lot more done this week and I have a whole bunch of different topics planned for you guys, so make sure you subscribe so you don't miss out!
Now onto the fabric, because there's a lot. I got Alex some Star Wars Cotton, and I'm going to make him a pillow case, but he was annoyed because the employee that cut it, said Star Trek. I was annoyed too, Star Trek is way better. (Bring on the hate! I'm READY! lol) I've picked up too big sections of Fleece, one in Keroppi and one in Adventure Time. I'm going to make some pretty nice throws from them. I'm kind of excited!
I was so excited to find the pokeball fabric! It has almost every type of pokeball, and I thought it was more unique then getting ones with the starters on them. I picked up some patterns, because just like my knitting, I am a freeform sewer, but I want to learn the tools of the trade. There both from Simplicity and their both halloween costumes, I couldn't resist the funky looking corsets or an easy to go back to version of Sailor Moon!
One of the things I am SUPER excited about was that I found +Tilly and the Buttons book; Love at First Stitch. It is so freaking pretty! I love the colors, I love how clean the instructions are, and I can't wait to use up some of my fabric going through every pattern in the book!! If you don't know who Tilly is please check out her website its swell for new seamstresses!

Have you guys gotten any cool fabric lately? I'd love to see it, or any projects that you've finished! Leave me a link below or on my twitter!

5 Days of Halloween: Bunny Rabbit

October 26, 2015

Hey Gang!
I had the brilliant idea of doing some super simple and easy Halloween costume ideas for every day leading up to Halloween. These are all work appropriate, and cost very little to do. I actually had these bunny rabbit ears laying around the house from a left over costume, but going out to pick them up shouldn't be more then 5 bucks.I used Bite Lipstick in Lingonberry for the nose, and I used Nyx's Big Fat Marker Eyeliner in Black for the whiskers.

Handheld Mistress #33: Whats in your system?

Hey Gang!
Spokhette holding Final Fantasy XIII and The Evil Within for the PS3
I know its been a while since I've written but I am really am trying to create some new content for ya'll! This week was just really crazy, two doubles in a row, and hardly any time to write for the blog at all. I can't believe the year is going by so fast, its going to be over soon! I've actually been using the time that I haven't been blogging to start working on ideas for the end of the year, and the upcoming year. But without further ado, onto all the games, I've been dying to tell you all about!

Screenshot of Battle in Persona Q for the 3DS
I had been playing Persona Q for quite some time. I like the characters, the Music, the game play. I got my entire team to about level 9 but I keep running into these king Beetle monsters in the third level of the labyrinth and they keep massacring me. After three days of failures, I decided to put it away and take a breather. Then I stopped into Gamestop on a whim and picked up The Evil Within and Final Fantasy XIII for my Playstation 3. I haven't played Final Fantasy before because I wasn't a fan of their drop down RPG system. This one seems much faster and less structured, I'm more willing to give it a chance, and they way they have it, the game seems to move pretty fast, which I like.
Loading Screen for The Evil Within.

I was so excited about The Evil Within, I had heard such great things about it, and some many other gamers were talking about it, I had such a hard time finding it, and then after a couple of months, there it was in Gamestop, in the clearance aisle. Of course, I just had to get it. I tried to play it a couple of days ago, at night, but I didn't get very far. I got about as far as grabbing the keys, but I can't figure out to get away after stabbing him, I'm always getting caught, and then subsequently getting my head chopped off!
Screenshot of Conversation with Barnham in Professor Layton V.S. Ace Attorney for the 3DS.
I picked up some new games for my 3DS too. Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 and Code of Princess.I've been spending most of my 3DS playing time between those two and Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney. I even got meet the high inquisitor, if I do say so myself, I totally see her as a future cosplay. I can't believe I hadn't tried any lego games before but the Harry Potter one is pretty fun and simple. I love the game play, and I love the puzzles. I haven't gotten to Hogwarts yet, I'm right in the middle of
Group shot of Final Fantasy XIII, The Evil Within for Ps3, Lego Harry Potter years 1-4 and Code of Princess for 3DS
the Gringotts Level. As far as Code of Princess goes, it was pretty much smooth sailing, I absolutely love the hack and Slash element to this RPG, its almost perfect. The only thing I don't like is that I have started walking around with a team of four, but none of those players are there to help me in battle. It's always just me, so I keep dying about the boss Semble, I think he cheats, so I've been pretty much stuck there for the last couple of days.

What have you guys been playing? I'm dying find more gamers who blog. So if you do leave your url in the comments!! Or any of my Social Media!

Comics Roundup #14

October 19, 2015

Hey Gang!
I'm back with more COMICS!!! It's been quite some time since I last wrote about comics, because its half I haven't been to the comic shop in a while and half, the last time I did pick up comics, I got so many I couldn't read them in one sitting. So I decided that I would use a really boring work day, to read the rest of them and I did.

Bombshells #1-2: Its a little weird to read about my favorite heroes in the back story of World War Two and Hitler. Odd that Stargirl and Supergirl being russian and sisters. But surprisingly that is not the biggest thing that bothered me My biggest thing is that between issues one and two the art changes. I like Savages art so much better. One thing that I do like much better in this, is the friendships between the female characters that weren't there before. Like Diana and Mera. Supergirl and Stargirl. I would like to learn a bit more abuot the other amazon's shown; especially Episteme, Techne and the pink haired one. I have so many questions too? Why is Zatanna under the Joker's Daughter's Rule? Ugh so many questions.

A-Force #3 I am really loving all the female friendly comics that are coming out recently. Like really really love it!! Who is the traitor? When will Glittery get a real name? Can we also talk about the fact that Doom has his own world, and the protectors are Thors? I'm just a little confused as to why its just ok to give doom his own world, and to run it as he sees fit...But then again, I didn't really read any other marvel comics dealing with Doom so maybe he's better now?

Captain Marvel #1: I only have one thing to say about this. Why did it take me so long to read this? How did this slip through my list of strong female chatacters? Kit also sounds familiar to me, I wonder if she becomes a hero a little later then when this story takes place. Next time I do go to my local show I will be grabbing some back issues, or at least a tradeback.

What have you been reading lately? What are some titles you guys are looking forward to picking up? Let me down below or on twitter!! I'd love to talk Comics with you guys!!

 Stay Nerdy,

Nerdette Lately

October 16, 2015

Hey Gang!

I know that this is a nerdy lifestyle blog but lately I've been writing more about the lifestyle and less about the person living it! I have so many things to show you that technically don't have anything to do with being nerdy and they've just been piling up, because I've been so concerned with building a fanbase for my blog that I forgot the most important part for you guys is gettting to know the person behind the blog!
With the holidays and such coming up, I've been splitting my time in half. Spending half with my family and doing silly things like going out to eat, doing movie nights and watching copious amounts of scooby doo with Alex and my little sister. The other half has been work, and then nights when I can't sleep have been blogging. I know that the blogging schedule of late has kind of been lacking, but it's been difficult keeping up with everything. I have all of these youtube ideas for my channel and then my camera decides that it doesn't want to focus, like at all.
If I can't even get my technology to focus, how can I get myself to? It's been difficult transitioning from floating ideas in my brain to finished results in a blog post or even a video, where I tend to ramble and hardly ever have a script. I have been able to do somethings that aren't nerd related lately. I got together with two of my friends and did some photoshoots! I took anniversary photos for my friend Robin and her boo, they turned out great. The shoot had to be cut short because of work obligations, but we'll be back next weekend to take some more! I also attended my first Cheer Competition, and not as a spectator, but as the teams photographer! I was so stoked to have the opportunity to follow the team around and take photos and video for the families and the coach!
I've been trying really hard for the past month or so to try networking off line, and around my city. I love all of my online friends, but I can't really set up photoshoots with you guys, and I've been hard at working putting together a portfolio and start working towards making solid income from photography, it's something I'd really love to do for the rest of my life.
I finally got around to watching Pitch Perfect 2, we stopped by our local video rental spot and grabbed a whole bunch of movies. I really liked it, it was pretty funny, I watched Into the Woods last night before bed, but it didn't really do anything for me. I'm glad I waited to watch it on video instead of the theater. Not a single actor of color, the music was lack luster, and there wasn't really a lesson learned. It was just kind of bleh in my opinion.
I've been listening to a lot of AAA lately, I have entire albums on repeat. I've been checking out their videos too, I had no idea there were so many people! Theres like 8! I thought it was a duo, male and female and its totally not!! The only thing thats irking me, is that almost everything is in Japanese Kanji and I'm having trouble finding specific songs because I can't type Kanji into my searchbar. So I'm stuck with what I'm able to click on in the youtube side bars. Speaking of youtube, I'm going to keep making videos even if they're blurry, because I enjoy doing it and the sound is great, so you can totally understand what I'm saying, even if I slighly resemble a ghost. Its' Halloween after all, perhaps my camera is just getting into the spirit!

Series #14:You Should Be Watching: My Little Pony

October 14, 2015

Hey Gang!

Featured

Welcome to a new series!!! In Reasons you should be watching, I will write a detailed post about one show, that I think you should watch. It's pretty simple. I have a lot of people rolling their eyes right now, because I chose My Little Pony. Withold your judgement, I'm not finished yet!

Reason 5: Continuity. When I was younger, there were very few shows that had continuity, now there are children shows with entire story arcs! Cartoons have seriously moved up! I love that My Little Pony introduces characters and keeps them, that they show up two to three seasons later.

Reason 4: Comedy. Now when people think of the show, they think of Pinkie Pie as the sole source of hilarity, and while she certainly lives up to the hype, she's not the only serving jokes. Between Dischord, Fluttershy and Rarity's issues with the normal things in life, there is no shortage of comedy.

Reason 3: Character Development. When the show started out, there were five ponies getting to learn about each other. Now I'm into their fourth season together and they're almost completely different from when they started. They are more like a family than a group of friends. They have actually been through many battles together, and have even found forgiveness for those they fought against before. What used to scare them doesn't as much, and they've become a much more accepting group of ponies.

Reason 2: The Music. The Music in this show is awesome, upbeat and super catchy. I'm surprised that they aren't selling the music honestly. I remember when you could get OST of the anime or cartoon you were loving. Now it's a lot more difficult to get your favorite jams. Plus all the references in the music ya'll, to see what I'm talking about check out Discord's A glass of water!

Reason 1: Zecora.  Now to get real biased for a minute. I absolutely love Zecora. She is my favorite character. She is the number reason you should watch this show. Sure she doesn't show up very often but when she does it is such a treat! She speaks in rhymes, and her voice reminds me of Storm from X-men. She's a Zebra, and she helps the ponies when they're in trouble, which is pretty often if you really think about it! Plus it's a great episode for the lesson of not judging books by their covers!

If you do watch My little Pony, lets talk about how awesome it is! Leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter! I love talking about nerdy things with ya'll! Don't be shy, we're all nerdy here!

October 13, 2015

Hey Gang!

I finally got my Camera FIXED!!! I got so excited that I recorded two videos in a row. I'm going to spread them out, and upload the second one next week. However, I have had this circling around in my head for almost three weeks, and I just had to get it out of my brain and in a video. This is in response to The Suffragette's T-shirts someone thought was a good idea.

5 Fandom Monday: Favorite fictional Teachers

October 12, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm talking about favorite fictional teachers today! Why is it so difficult to find a BLACK TEACHER?! I've spent the past 3 hours trolling the internet, and the only fictional animated teacher I could come up with were Storm, in X-men Evolution. I'm a little irked about the lack of representation.

6. Mister Feeney: I practically grew up with him. Sure Boy meets world didn't have a black character until college, but it was still part of my childhood. Mister Feeney was no nonsense, and yet still able to nurture an entire generation of children to greatness.

5. John Keating: The poetry teacher from Dead Poets Society. I picked this movie up on a whim from the local video store, and then returned a day later to purchase it, it really spoke to me. It had a beautiful message, and it showed what a real teacher should be like.

4. Yukari Tanizaki: Homeroom and English Teacher from Azumanga Daioh. I'm not saying that she should be emulated, because keeping kids prisoner to win a sports competition is a little overboard, but there are things that can be learned from her. Live in the moment, enjoy yourself, learn lots, life is too short for anything else.

3. Professor McGonagall: Who didn't want to be in Mcgonagall's Class after reading the books? I know I did, if I become a teacher, I'd want to be just like her. She put a lot of "magical" life in her lessons, everything she taught them could be applied to the world outside of hogwarts, and it was.

2. Numbah Five: I feel like she was a great teacher. She was a great anchor for the team while Nigel was away. I love the way she took Numbah 3 under her wing, and I love that even though her older sister wasn't a good guy, she didn't let that define her.

1. Storm: Storm taught me how to be ok with myself, even if you couldn't find others like yourself. In X-men Evolution, She is a botany teacher, and I thoroughly enjoy that. I think she would make a great teacher.

I can't help the extra mentions. Who are some of your favorite teachers? Tell me on Twitter, or below in a comment!
