Happy New Year!

December 31, 2013

I'm so excited for the new year!  I cant wait for all of the new experiences that are going to be heading my way. I'm going to try my very hardest to stay super positive all year long. The year always starts off really well and then things tend to go downhill. But I refuse to let it get me down. I only have a few resolutions for the new year.

1. Lose 30 pounds and keep them off (regular exercise)
 2. Get more organized. (No more letting bills and payments slide!)
 3. Become Debt free! (So when i move out of state it doesn't follow me.)
 4. Move out of fast food as soon as possible!
 5. Revamp the blog and actually keep up with it this year.
 6. Try to be more zen. Life is wayyy to short to get mad at the top of a hat.
 7. Stick out my relationships this year. If it gets tough i wanna get tougher.
 8. Do more pressy type things (conventions/interviews)
 9. Try not to be such a push over this year. If it doesn't sit right tell em!
 10. Finally, i just want to have fun this year and enjoy my life. I'll be 23, i wanna make this year count.

What are some of your new year resolutions? The topic continues on twitter @provacatrix

Just back from Hobbiton...A mini marathon of Movie Double Features

December 30, 2013

I love movies. I adore them. If they keep my attention, I like them. It is as simple as that. I adore new and old, monochrome or color, cheesy or serious. I absolutely adore movies. On thing I like about them is how they make me feel. I feel free, like I'm floating over everyone else enjoying life instead of worrying about how said bills are going to get paid. It is an incredibly liberating feeling. I don't mind if I'm sitting in my bed re-watching something I've seen a million times, or if I'm decked out in full costume, enjoying a premiere.
The past month or so, I've been heading to a local theatre a lot because its close to my boyfriend AND they show double and triple features. I was there for the Thor Marathon: Thor, Avengers and Thor 2: Dark World. Hunger Games Double Feature: Hunger Games and Catching Fire. The premiere of the 50th Doctor Who Christmas Special. Finally, The Hobbit Double Feature: The Hobbit and The Desolation of Smaug. Every one except for the Doctor, has some keepsake item given at the door, after you hand them the ticket.
I have been to each one of these with my boyfriend with the exception of Hunger Games, I went with my younger sister and we had a ball! It doesn't matter if people are rude. It doesn't even matter, if the person sitting a few seats down is SNORING, there is honestly nothing that can ruin a movie experience for me other than a HORRIBLE ENDING. There are soo many great movies that could have been box office hits had they had the ending I wanted.

- Se7en

- Hunger Games: Catching Fire

- Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 ( There should have never been a part 2)

- Oleander

- Batman: The Dark Knight Rises ( Robin as his real name? Get over yourselves)

 Sincerely Yours,
Spokhette!

P.S. The conversation continues on Twitter : @provacatrix What are movie endings that you hated?

Looking forward to a new year ( Inside Sneak Peek)

December 27, 2013

 Hello my lovely readers,
Thanks for sticking with me all this time. I mean, I've been keeping this up since 2008! In May, that will have been six years! I think that's cause for celebration, don't you? So since the new year is literally around the corner I just wanted to say thanks again for all the support and hopefully, it will continue for the next few years to come!
To ring in the new year, I will be overhauling the blog...again, but it's a new year its all about change and progress right? I want to streamline Vulcan Sugar and Spice, to include things that I like to do, I love my blog, but I feel like its hard for people to follow along because I try to include all kinds of things! Vulcan Sugar and Spice has no structure, and as my mother loves to inform me, you can't survive without structure.
So bringing in the new year, will be a more streamlined Vulcan Sugar and Spice! Video Games, Photography and Comic books. I'm Ready for this are you guys?

Sincerely yours,
Spokhette

If Only I had a nickle, Misfortune abound and New adventures.

December 6, 2013

The last three weeks have the best and the worst I have ever experienced. I've had some really tough times,  and I really wish I could just file them away and never remember them again. So far, for the month of November, I've had my electricity turned off for no reason, Ive had both of the back cylinders on my car replaced, and since I was driving before I figured it out, my breaks could have gone out at any moment, which of course is highly dangerous, and then right before Thanksgiving, my apartment was broken into. They got away with all of my electronics, and a few of the cords, but the most important thing, they took my camera. I hadn't even had it for an entire year. I loved that thing, and someone took it from me. Honestly, I'm mad about all of the other things they took, but those are replaceable. Hell, even the camera is replaceable, but those photos? The ones still on the sd card, still in the kit? I'm never gonna get those back. Ever, its not like the people who stole it is going to have a conscience and email them to me. I'm never going to see those photos again. Just the thought of that, has made me so depressed that I haven't even wanted to journal, digitally or analog. I just don't understand how these things occur. I'm a nice person. I don't cheat anyone out of anything. I don't say no, instead I try to find a way to help everyone. When people come up to me on the street, I give them, what they ask for (Within reason) I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I've never stolen anything. I've never done anyone harm, and I am respectful to my elders. So why does it seem like everytime I turn around, something is screwing me over? I feel like that heroine in the Korean dramas. The one where all of the embarrassing things happen to her and at the end of the episode she is on her bed, rolling around screaming misfortune. Now I have a party to get ready for, that starts in less than 3 hours. My hair is a mess, my dress, shoes and tights are in a whole other location and there are 2 hills and countless high ways full of snow and ice, and dangerous drivers standing between me, and the location of the party.
Montage Sheer High Waist Black Dress  I'm so nervous about this party. Like I spent three weeks looking for the perfect dress. Pretty, but conservative. I found a really pretty black dress, with a sheer overlay. And I ordered it. 2 weeks ago. Its the night of the party, and it still hasn't arrived at my door. So last night I decided to go to the mall and see if I could find a dress fitting for the occasion. Where I lack in good luck, I make up for in finding sales. My mother and I went into Debs, and found that they were having a buy one get another 60% off on the entire store! So I bought two dresses. One is red, strapless, one of those hi-lo maxis, and then I got a knee length dress. White lace overlay on top of a rose pink strapless. and I bought black booties, with a platform heel to finish off the outfit. Hopefully, the day gets better, because I clearly have hit my limit. But in the good news department, I have a boyfriend.

Until next time,
Spokhette

P.S. Do you guys have any bad luck stories? I'd love to know I'm not the only one in the world having these issues. As always, the conversation continues on twitter!

Halloween

November 12, 2013

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, but this year's the weather was catastrophic. Literally, there was a tornado watch in effect. But did we let that stop us from getting our costumes on, and grabbing candy? OF COURSE NOT! I took my younger sister, her best friend, then my three cousins Trick or Treating, in the Wind and Rain storm! I swear I caught Pneumonia that night! My aunt dressed up George (The dog) as an inmate. He was ADORABLE!!! I couldn't stop taking pictures of him! He was just too precious! We watched a marathon of Scary movies, including the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street,
Halloween 1-6 and Friday the 13th 1 and 2, but I fell asleep on two, so I don't know what else they'd watched after that. The day before Halloween, I got all decked out in my costume, and went to a house party. It was the lamest house party, I ever had the pleasure of attending but I had wayyy to much fun. It was the usual HEY EVERYBODY LETS GET DRUNK AND DANCE, kind of party, but I met new people, and I LOVE meeting new people. Hopefully, Next Halloween the weather will be better. My sister, her friend and I were Heroes. Batman, Superman, Robin respectively. It quickly became one of my favorite costumes of all time. I bought the shorts, the corset and the mask at Spirit, and then I got the tights from Citi Trends for ONE DOLLAR ( I literally couldn't pass it up), and then the boots I bought at Party City. While I was out getting final pieces of costumes for my Sister and her friend, Spencer's had another hat sale. Buy one get one 50% off, so of course, I couldn't pass that up either, and I got a Batman and a Superman snapback! It really is becoming an addiction...If I'm not careful, It's going to turn into my comic or heaven forbid MY YARN HABIT! My Sister and my younger cousin, who dressed up as Jason Vorhees ( Friday the 13th killer/ She's 10) did a stop action photoshoot, of Batman getting stabbed. (Oh, the things we get up to on Halloween.)  I know it's only been like nine days since Halloween, But I already can't wait for next year. I have so many costume ideas floating around in my head, that I'm surprised it hasn't exploded yet.

Until Next Time,
~Spokhette!~

I'm a Shameless Marvel Fan Girl.

November 11, 2013

I am currently sitting in a Barnes and Noble in Newport, Kentucky. One, it was the only place I could find free wifi. Two, their cheesecake is horrible. Three, I am waiting for the time to pass until the beginning of the Thorsday movie marathon. Today Newport's AMC theatre is showing Thor , The Avengers and then the premiere of Thor 2: The Dark World.
The reason I am such a shameless fangirl is because I ADORE Marvel. It doesn't matter what it is, how long its been out, or how long ago it was made. I will go pick it up, and give it a totally biased read through. The only Marvel Character that hasn't gotten this treatment is Iron Man. I know that most girls find Tony Stark to the be the Bees Knees. But I personally cannot stand him. I don't think he's cute, I don't think his attitude is attractive, and honestly if I was the black widow, I would have punched him in the face twice already because I honestly just don't have the patience, for people with his brand of confidence..
Before this date, I had never given Thor another glance either. I just couldn't see it, you are a NORSE GOD. I just can't believe that you would want to be a superhero, or that you would want to even help us mere mortals. However, since Dark World comes out, I thought it was be a good way to understand the mind of Thor, and hang out with the besties. I starts in about 20 minutes so I'll be signing off soon, but just for discussionary purposes, anyone have any thoughts about the new Ms. Marvel?

Spokhette Goes Outside: Northside (Photo Heavy)

October 9, 2013

I go to school near by and the other day, instead of going home and doing my homework, I decided to park in one of the nearby lots and explore the humble neighborhood that I normally just drive through. I'm really glad I did, its full of so many interesting businesses! A record shop, a small bakery, tattoo and piercing parlor, and the absolute Cutest little Billboards where you can put up posters and all kinds of cool stuff. I think I'll start leaving my business cards there! To see more, click the jump!

Cinema #1: Bluebeard ('44)

October 7, 2013

Welcome to one half of the Halloween related posts for the year gang! Today, I'll be reviewing Ulmer's Bluebeard featuring John Carradine.  So Set in old time Paris, (The movie is black and white) Is about a man, who is strangling young women. Amorie, a puppeteer, meets three young women in the park after dark, Only of which one he is interested in, the only one who hasn't seen his puppet show. They begin to create a repartee and they develop feelings for each other. Amorie is also a painter, and the models he paints mysteriously end up dead and floating in the river. Loosely Based on the French tale of the same name, Conomore the Accursed, and his wife Tryphine.
I actually really liked this movie and can totally see why it has become a cult classic. Since the movie is in public domain, you can see it for yourself, I won't ruin it for you, But is definitely now a favorite, and Carradine' Piercing eyes, no wonder he was in so many scary movies of the time.

Halloween: Me-Tv

October 2, 2013

So you guys know that Halloween is right around the corner.  Since Halloween is rearing its head, so is my insatiable appetite for anything scary, or kooky, and along with that are television specials! So I'm going to introduce you to a television channel today called Me-Tv. Memorable Entertainment Television.
Basically Like T.V. Land before it got lame. The interesting thing about Me-Tv during Halloween time is that they show scary movies. Not just any old scary movies, but Universal Horror CLASSICS. Which are featured in a show called Svengoolie. Now if you don't know who that is, don't be ashamed, click on the link and get to know him! Super well, BECAUSE he is on EVERY Saturday night, and every night he shows a different scary movie! Being the Lover of old scary movies that I am, I have already DVR-ed it. But I wanted to let you know because just in case you weren't aware, that is FREAKING AWESOME!
Unfortuantely, for the programming on Me-Tv, it will cut out my usual Batman/Star Trek Block, but since its Halloween time, I think I will survive it. If you decide to join me This Saturday, They will be showing DRACULA!

This Concludes my Halloween Rant, but Preludes, all of the cool Halloween Related posts, that I have For VSS this Month!

W.I.P.s: NEW PROJECT!

September 30, 2013

About a week ago, I completed my infinity Scarf, It came off of my needles and I looked at it. I decided that I wanted to crochet an edge so It looked cleaner, and I got about half-way through it and there it sits on my desk waiting for me to come back to it. However in the mean time I have decided to cast on a new project a cropped Pullowver. Long flowy sleeves, about halfway down my torso and possibly a crocheted hood. I'm kind of excited. I'll just show you the supplies for now!

All of the supplies pictured, were bought at the Silk Road Textiles Shop in College Hill, Which reminds me that I have to go pick up the other two Colette Patterns I ordered!! I can't wait to get everything moved out of the truck at my parents so I can finally make my apartment feel like home.

Friday the 13th : Scary Movie overload

September 13, 2013

OOOOOHHHHH...
Today is Friday the thirteenth, and in a month it will be Halloween. So I thought before I kick off my annual countdown to halloween, I would give a good list of go-to scary movies for your causal perusion! My family and I absolutely LOVE scary movies, and even though I am a total wimp, and watch them only when I have a cuddle partner or a big comforter that I can hide my face in when things get a little hairy. We watch scary movies on any occasion basically whenever we feel like it. But we have those special days like Friday the 13th or any day when it wants to thunderstorm, we'll get together get all comfortable and lay up with a movie marathon. Here are a few of my favorites.

I, Madman (1986)
Starring no one that I recognize, there is a woman, who works at a used bookstore, who discovers to books made by Michael Brand, as she begins to get enthralled with the plot of the story, bits and pieces begin to happen to her, and people around her. This is definitely NOT one of those books you wish came true. An actress, negates the love of another, who is then driven insane by rejection, he decides that he will become the perfect man, by chopping off body parts of others...It's all fun and games until someone looses an eyeball.

The Ninth Gate (2002)
Stars Johnny Depp, Yes ladies, just sit back and relax, and enjoy the show. He is a rare book dealer, and supposedly on the journey of a book to magically summon the devil. It kind of lacks in pretty much everything, but hey Johnny Depp is in it, and if its really bad, you could always make out until the next movie starts.

Halloween (1978)
When I was younger, I used to be so afraid of this movie. The entire series, actually. My mother and aunt, used to scare me mercilessly. I remember I was watching it with my mom and my aunt, and in the middle of one of the babysitters getting sliced and diced, My aunt turned out all of the lights, and poured hot red koolaid over my head. I freaked out, and didn't watch scary movies for 7 years. Now its my favorite Series!

Scream (1996)
The reason I like these, are they are basically parodies of all the scary movies that came before them. There four in total, and they all center around Sidney Prescott, and her family. Perfect slasher movie date!

Friday the 13th (1986)
Jason Vorhees and his mother, just terrorizing a small campground, slicing and dicing as they see fit. It really just seems like if you have sex in scary movies, you die, thats' good enough for me. My life or an orgasm? hmmm. I'm pretty sure its a clear choice. Also Super good by cheesy.

The Collector + The Collection (2009+2012)
A large masked man locks and booby traps houses, and kills their inhabitants. Incredibly gory, and I only recommend this to fans of the likes of Saw. I personally HATE saw, but I can not say that it is not a great scary movie.

Martin (1978)
Directed by George A. Romero, it centers around a character named Martin, who has monochrome romanticim feelings about Vampires, and Seducing women and drinking their blood. A Geeky Must see, but Sadly not based off of (John Fowles Novel of the same name)

Well I hope this helped you decide on your plans for Friday the 13th Guys! If there are any movies you guys think I missed, feel free to put them in the comments below! I love watching new movies!!!

Have a Ghoolish Night.

Spokhette goes outside: Newport, Ky

So Sunday Night, I went on a first date, with a very adorable and goofy Slot Technician. I was supposed to meet him at the pepper pod, which is a 24 hour restaurant in Newport. Usually when I need to head to Kentucky, I take a specific highway and then BAM! I'm there, this time I decided to google directions because I was running a little late, and doing that caused me to end up in INDIANA! Like with the welcome to Indiana sign and everything! So After, that cautastrophe, I finally found the pepper Pod, an entire hour later. And he was still there in the car, patiently waiting for me. I felt soo special. So We went in, and had dinner/breakfast, and got to know each other a little bit and then, we decided to explore Newport Ky!
Of course I had my trusty camera with me, and I took some phtos of some of the cool things I saw on the walk. We turned the corner and there was like an entire street of antique shops, costume Galleries, and a really huge comic book shop, along with a skatershop. I was in love. We held hands and walked around until we got tired and then we sat and talked some more.

Circular Needles Meet the Infinity Scarf

September 11, 2013

Yes, acknowledge the wonderful double take that just occurred there. I wrote W.I.P as a title. As a needle Crafter, W.I.P., is an acronym for Works In Progress. Which by the mere definition means that I, Gabriella have yet again picked up yarn and needles and begun yet again the journey to that beautiful destination we call a finished project! The project that I am working on right now, is an infinity scarf for myself. In pursuing this project, I have learned how to knit in the round! Jump back wild child! JUMP BACK NOW!  Now, since I've started, I've had several people ask for certain things, but since no one has actually sat down with me, and gone over what they wanted, I suppose I'll just keep knitting!
I really wish I had the time to sit down and learn a pattern, but alas, I am still a free-form knitter, but never fear, the cool thing about it, is that I can always re-create it, and I am seriously thinking about turning Doux Intoxicatie into a pattern shop. But for the time being, it is kinda in limbo. I'm about halfway through I think, and hopefully there will be a finished project photoshoot soon! Gotta get ready for the fall weather coming my way!

Have you guys been working on anything? I wanna start featuring people on the blog, so leave me a message in the comments, email me at emeraldarachnid@gmail.com, or send me tweet!

Needles to Society: Silk Road Textiles

September 6, 2013

The other day, I was driving home from school and on the way I discovered a little ma and Pa shop, called Silk Road Textiles. I decided to park and stop by, my mother and I have passed it several times, but this was the first time I actually stopped in. This little shop was sooo pretty! On one side there were like books, and patterns, by Collette. This was the first time I'd ever seen any of their patterns, and they were soo beautiful! They were the perfect mix between vintage and modern, like I just wanted to buy a copy of look book just to have it on display. The photography, the writing the entire lookbook was just so pretty! I couldn't get over it!
Then on the otherside there were stacks and rows of textiles and Fabric, and then in the back there was Yarn upon yarn, and not just your run of the mill worsted yarn, but beautiful specialty yarns, beautiful alpaca blends, and gorgeous wool! I couldn't believe my eyes, it was like being a kid in candy store! I wound up picking up four balls of yarn, a pattern for Colette's Hawthorne design, placing Ceylon and Macaron on hold, and I bought a new pair of Circular needles, perfect for chunky knits! I'm already working on an infinity scarf, for the fall season. Here's the yarn I bought.

Haul: Snapbacks and Purse Upgrades

August 26, 2013

 Hey guys!
So I thought I would drop by and show you guys whats been happening on the style front of the blog.  I haven't really been up to anything crazy, but every now and again I do pick up a few things. I finally got a tripod so I can start taking outfit photos again, but in the meantime, I can introduce you to my snapback obsession. If you've been following my instagram, you will have already seen these, but since not a lot of people are, I thought I would put them up on here as well. Ever since I was little I've always owned a snapback. But since heading up to Columbus to go see D-Pryde and actually procuring one for myself, I have been absolutely itching for more and more.
Thursday I fulfilled that itch by purchasing two more from Spencer's during their buy one get one 50% off! It was so difficult to make my decision! I literally stood there for like a whole half an hour pacing back and forth to try and figure out which one's I wanted. The clerk came back to me like 12 different times and I still hadn't made a decision. There were so many choices, but a lot of them had that ugly mesh back that I hate with a passion. And All the ones I gravitated towards were about the same color. Black and green, and I already had one of those. They had a whole bunch of Mario, the boyish Tapout. and wiz Khalifa, but they didn't have any Mac Miller, they only had mario, but no other characters, they had transformer stuff but no decepticon stuff, I can't be a good guy all the time.
I decided on Scooby-Doo and Adventure Time. I also got a brand new bag, I loved my pink one but it was definitely time for something new, when your bag is nothing but zipped pockets and 90% of them don't zip anymore its more than likely a sign to get a new one!
Out with the old and in with the new!

Baked, with Scooby Doo
