Nerdout: Killin' Me Softly

September 30, 2015

Hey Gang!

I am so excited about this interview guys!! I am using Skillshare to try to get back into the swing of learning again, and I've signed up for Andrea's Class for how to make Plushes of your pets. Its such a fun class, you really should check it out. The reason, I am so excited about this interview is because I am a huge fan of Killin' Me Softly, I have mentioned her Plushes on this blog several times, and I am currently coveting the Edgar Allan Poe Plush but I want them All! I literally squealed when she agreed to an interview ya'll, I can't wait for you guys to learn all about her, and make sure you go visit her shop and instagram after this, for an overload of felt cuteness!!!

- Tell us a little about yourself and your business.

I am a freelance artist/puppet builder living in Brooklyn, New York. I started making plush dolls just over a year ago. I wanted to use my puppet making skills to make something simple that people could enjoy without spending a fortune. Once I came up with the concept of making cute, plush serial killers - Killin' Me Softly was born.

- Where does your inspiration come from?

It honestly comes from everywhere! I love Horror and Gothic culture so that is where many of my character inspirations come from. I also love making Disney villains and other belover characters from my childhood. Of course, TIme Burton is one of my biggest influences, especially his work with NIghtmare Before Christmas. Aside from that, I have made so many Johnny Depp characters that I change the name of the shop to the Johnny Depp Doll Company and no one would blink an eye.

- You currently have a class on skill share for plush making, are you nervous about your new teaching role?

I was nervous to start because I thought no one would take the Class! I'm feeling better now that a couple hundred people have enrolled and I have some good reviews. Aside from that, I haven't been very nervous - I don't mind making a fool of myself as long as my information is correct.

- If someone was having issues following your instructions, what advice would you have for them?

I'd say make sure you take your time. Sewing is not a race! I have trouble following htis rule a lot of the time but it'll save you a ton of grief if you're just careful and patient at all times.

- You have such a unique style, do you have a fiction or non-fictional role model (s) you pull strength from?

The big three for me would be Walt Disney, Jim Henson and Tim Burton. They have all created their own worlds that other people can now enjoy. I just think that's an amazing thing, to let people see into your imagination.

 - If you had to describe your shop to someone new, how would you sum it up for them?

I make design oriented plush dolls of creepy and cute characters all from the comfort of my tiny apartment in Brooklyn.

-  If you were going to make a plush for your own personal use, what would it be and why?

My favorites that I have made are the Lock Shock and Barrel set as well as Sweeney Todd. I think part of the reason is that they are some of my absolute favorite characters but I also love the way they look in doll form.

- Who is your favorite Scary Movie Killer?

It's no competition, I love Freddy Krueger. The recently late Wes Craven broke so much ground creating Freddy. Yes he was scary, but he was also one of the first killers to be witty and silly. I think it's important to not take yourself so seriously, there's a lot of comedy in darkness.

- What are some of the things you Nerd Out, or obsess over?

I'm a complete Disney addict. I cannot get enough of Disney history and need to know everything about the evolution of the company and the parks. Going back to what I said before, stepping into Disneyland is literally like stepping into the mind of Walt Disney and I think there's something so magical about that.

Comics Roundup #13: 5 ways to Celebrate Batman Day + How I spent Mine

September 28, 2015

Hey Gang!
Happy Monday! Not sure if you knew, but Saturday was Batman Day! I spent the day with my family watching animated films such as Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and an episode or two of 66's Batman just to round out the fun, we also played a really fun game called Heads Up. This game is on my ipad and you can buy empty cards which you can then fill in yourself, so we did and we have our very own Batman trivia Deck. I highly recommend it. Here are some options that you can do for next year!

- Have a Marathon: Unless you are new to my blog you'll be aware that I have a very fond spot in my heart for binge-watching... Pretty much anything. Television Shows, Movies, K-Dramas and more in one sitting. This is a great way to celebrate Batman Day. You don't have to go crazy, one season of the animated series, all of his live action movies in a row, or maybe even just his animated films, My favorite is the Mask of the Phantasm, maybe even taking a stroll down memory lane with episodes of '66 Batman on Amazon.

- Have a Bookathon: Batman is a tale old as time, with just as many issues! Cuddle up with your favorite Comics buddy and start reading one of your favorite Batman comic runs! I'm a huge fan of Snyder + Capullo's Court of Owls Run. But who says, you only have to celebrate/honor Batman on this day? What about all the others that made his story awesome? Why not pay homage to Valentine's Catwoman? Have a few laughs with Nguyen's Lil' Gotham,  Better yourself and open your hearts with Gail's Batgirl. Solve a mystery or two with Fletcher's Gotham Academy. Doesn't really matter what ya choose, you'll find Batman in all of these titles.

- Be your own Gordon: Report any crime you see in your area. Help your police help you. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious, always, but especially today. Heck, you might even see the Caped Crusader coming to lend a hand. Crime doesn't pay, and you can make sure it doesn't have it's day, by monitoring your surroundings!!

- Dress up: Now unless you just have a batman suit lying around in your closet begging to be used, I wouldn't suggest running around your fair city as our favorite Crime Fighter, but maybe just channel him into your style for the day. With Batman being so popular its super easy to find apparel with his signal, and even smaller items, like barettes and bows. You only need a little to feel like a million.

- Share it with your best Friend: My little sister and I are huge batman fans. One of the reasons we love him so much, is because he is a common interest of ours. So pull a Dick and Tim, A Batman and Superman and go enjoy a batman activity together!! Go see a Batman Movie. Play a game of Batman Trivia. Bake Batman Cookies. Just choose something batman related, A pal with a sense of justice, and have a ball.

Tell me about how YOU spent Batman Day down below! I'd love to talk about it on all the Social Media. Come interact with me!!

Comics Roundup #12

September 23, 2015

Hey Gang!

I know it's been a while since I've written one of these, but life intervened again. I had realized that my local comic shop had the ability to hold comics for me, but that's getting dangerous, I have sequential's piling up and wound up spending $40 a pop. Since I had so many comics, I have split them in half, I'm going to read the other half this weekend, and then tell you guys all about them.

I absolutely loved Batgirl 43, I feel like they are going in the direction of my dreams. Frankie becoming the next Oracle. Do you guys know how awesome that is going to be? You can't tell me she didn't look badass in that borrowed cowl and leather suit. Every issue, Frankie just becomes cooler and cooler. Was I the only one who thought the girl in the office that was attacked by the tiger looked like the Comic Writer Kate Leth? Who is launching an awesome-looking Hellcat comic with the super talented Brittany Williams, if you weren't in the know.

I am completely obsessed with Gotham Academy, I need them to be longer, I'm like devouring them, and then squealing, when I have to wait another month for the next part of the story. Will Olive learn about her mother? Is Batman a bad Guy? Will Pomeline ever stop being mean? Can we talk about how awesome Maps is? I think I have found my next cosplay. All the questions, and too little answers DC!

Thanks to tweeters like @fangirljeanne, @blackgirlnerds, I saw one panel of Secret Wars: Secret Love, specifically, the one where Danny Rand is Doing Misty's Bantu Knots and knew instantly it was going to be in my pull list. One, who doesn't love Misty and Danny? WHY WAS IT SOO SHORT??? (Are you Listening Marvel? I NEED MORE!!!!!) The Ant-Man and Wasp, with actual Superpowered insects was super adorable, and even thought I'm not a huge Thor fan, I'm glad Squirrel Girl, got to enjoy herself and his abs.

Okay Marvel, Can we talk about Silk? I know that you guys have this thing about martyring beloved characters, and I totally get that your universe is ending... But Silk was in a bunker for 10 years. Then she gets out, starts to get a handle on her powers, starts to have some confidence in herself and her abilities, and finds her brother, and then YOU WANT THE PLANET TO BLOW UP?!?! LAST DAYS OF SILK?!?!?!? Why are you playing with my emotions like this?? What did I ever do to you? I literally need ya'll to re-think this, like seriously, She better crawl out of a bunker with her little brother in your "new universe" or else, I will have a stern letter for you buster!!!

I know I wrote earlier that I wasn't the biggest fan of Black Canary, but it's really starting to grow on me. The story is becoming more solid, and the art isn't as choppy as before. I'm a little miffed that after all that hard work Ditto still ends up missing, but I know they won't let me down. I was a little angry about her ex-husband showing up too, like ick... Can't she just have one problem at a time? I mean Bab's already blew up all her belongings, at least let her only have to protect one person at a time. She's only one woman, cut her some slack...Sheesh.

What have you guys been reading? Leave 'em below, I'm always itching for something new!!

 Stay Nerdy,

The day I met Adam West and couldn't get rid of the bomb

September 21, 2015

Hey Gang!

I had so much fun over the weekend!!! I was only there a couple of hours, again, I had a strict plan of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to see. However, I wasn't able to complete everything I wanted, a lot of the people I wanted to visit weren't at their tables. This convention was actually a lot bigger than I remembered it being a couple of years ago. It was really hard to move around, so I was only able to glance at a couple of things before being jostled about.
My number one priority of course, was to get my photo taken with Adam West and Burt Ward. I was able to do that. I was worried after, getting my ticket, that I would be really far back in line, so we explored for another hour and then headed in line. While exploring, I realized they had three of the 66' Batman vehicles: The Batmobile, Motorcylce, and the Helicopter, actually from the movie, it was full of autographs from the original cast! They even had the bomb you guys!! So of course, I had to take some awesome pictures with that!!!
I got some photos of some serious Cosplayers, there were so many good ones, that I caught where I was stuck in line, so I only got a few.
I hate photographing people without asking them first, I just feel like its just common courtesy and good manners, to ask before photographing them, it makes me feel like a creep if I don't. The belle that I found is actually  @momokurumi, which was really cool, because I had been following her on instagram for a while, and I love when I meet people who are awesome online in person!! There was this adorable little girl couldn't have been older than ten pulling off an extraordinary Jubilee Costume! As soon, as I saw her, I knew I had to get a picture with her! We ran into two perfect Predators, A Batman, A super unique Nightwing I believe (Dress form) and Master Roshi, of course I had to have my two favorite perverts in a photo together!
The line for Adam West and Burt Ward was GINORMOUS! It looped around like a giant snake with four or five bends!! The line didn't start moving until after 2:30 and they moved us in and out so freaking fast, I didn't even know Adam was wearing sunglasses until I got the photo back an hour later. I got three posters: An Adam Hughes Black Canary, A retro DC Ladies including: Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Supergirl and Batgirl, and a Sailor Moon Poster, with all the outer Senshi without Sailor Saturn, there was another one that had Pluto and Saturn, but no Uranus or Neptune. AISH! Why is it so difficult to find a poster with all of them? Good luck find the Starlights, or even Tuxedo Mask in one of them, it's enough to make my head hurt.
Although, I am done with conventions for a while, this month is far from slowing down, or being over. I still have two sewing project posts in the works for you guys, two video ideas floating around in my head and tons more ideas I can't wait to implement. So make sure you stay tuned, follow on Youtube and Bloglovin, so you don't miss out!!! Outfit Details: T-shirt: Walmart, Cage Skirt: Allegra K (Amazon) Tights (Amazon), Chocolate Chuck Taylors (Burlington Coat Factory).    If you were at the Expo, and I missed you, make sure to tell me below! I'd love to link up and network with ya!! I'm always up for meeting local podcasters, bloggers, and vloggers like yourselves!!

  Stay Nerdy,

Gamer Famelle: Anna from Nerdy Alerty!

September 18, 2015

Hey Gang!

Today, we have the pleasure of learning about Anna, a super adorable nerdette, who enjoys video games, fitness, and Doctor Who! If you haven't visited her blog go now, her Lakitus cosplay, is adorable!

What do you like to see in your games? What about them makes that game your favorite?

I like to see Strong Female characters and a strong story. I'm a big fan of RPG's for that reason. If a game sucks me in with the story, I'll be playing until 4 in the morning on a work day... both a good and bad thing.

If you could be any hero, who would you choose and why?

Lara Croft, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Lara has an unwavering loyatly toward her friends that I admire, plus that girl has some KILLER upper body strength.

Name your Top 5.

Kingdom Hearts
Final Fantasy X
Pokemon X and Y
Chrono Cross
Tomb Raider

Are you a fan of pokemon? Who are your favorites?

Yes! In X & Y I finally completed my dream by defeating the final 4 with an entire army of Eevee-lutions! It was glorious and still my favorite moment of any pokemon game I've played.

Is there any game-related memorabilia you cherish?

I bought the collectors edition of Final Fantasy XIV, it came with some art cards, a book of art, and a soundtrack. One of the best gaming things I own, it's all so pretty!

What is one thing you enjoy and dislike about being a female gamer?

I love finding other female gamers! It's nice to talk about gaming, and not have that air of superiority that come across when you attempt conversation with male gamers. I don't like that my game choices are sometimes looked down upon when I mention them to male gamers.

If someone was new to gaming, which game would you suggest to them?

Any of the Final Fantasies, or Chrono Cross, it's a bit retro but totally worth it!

(I concur, Chrono Cross is AWESOME!)

What would you tell parents, who don't let their children play Video Games?

As someone who married a man who plays as many games as I watch television, I think that games can sometimes be an outlet to those who don't know or aren't sure how to express thier feelings. It's a good way to allow them to decompress and escape for a while before attaching any problems they're having.

If you were going to get a gaming tattoo, what would you get, and what is it's significance to you?

Paopu fruit, in Kingdom Hearts it symbolizes that no matter where you are, your friends will always be with you. I love that sentiment.

When you aren't gaming, what are some of your other time-passing hobbies?

I enjoy making nerdy crafts such as TARDIS purses, and I watch an exceptional amount of television.

Make sure you give this lovely lady all the love, and tell her I sent ya!

 Stay Nerdy,

Fangirling: Frankie Charles

September 16, 2015

Hey Gang!

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I've had ideas swirling around my head for a while and I've just decided that any blog idea I have just to write it down instantly, and then when I'm planing new posts, I go back to my book and cross them off as I go. Monday, I wrote about fangirling with Cameron and Brenden about Batgirl, and today, I'm going to write what I love about Frankie Charles.

If you aren't in the know, Frankie Charles is an awesome character in the new Batgirl Arc. Without too many spoilers, Frankie is a bi, disabled, black female coder, who is Bab's roommate in Burnside.
I actually wrote about her a little while ago, as my favorite fictional character, and the reasons honestly haven't changed.

Frankie Charles, is a character that looks like me, and one I can relate to, in a comic universe that is kind of difficult to find any representation. Since she's a coder, and spends a good portion of her comic book time, online, I could totally see us hanging out together and laughing on things we find on Twitter.

There's been some not so subtle hints that she is going to be the next Oracle. Can this be a thing, DC? PLEASE?! +Gail Simone made Oracle what she is today, and for Frankie to have the chance to fill that mantle would be awesome. Not only because she's good at what she does and would literally kill at the opportunity, but because I would love to have a character represent women of color, with technology in a comic book.

Can we talk about her fashion Sense? Thanks to Babs Tarr I want every outfit she's ever worn, especially when she pretends to be Batgirl for a small stint. That dress, when they go to the art show? TO FREAKING DIE FOR! I feel like anything that Babs draws, just flows with inspiration, I'm itching to fire up my sewing machine.

I think that's one of the biggest reasons, I love Frankie, she's a well rounded, well represented character that inspires me.  If you wanna know more about Frankie, Go out and get the Trade of BATGIRL, and make sure you read from #43 on, because Fletcher, Stewart and Tarr have some awesome things planned for her, I can feel it in my bones!

If you are a fan of Frankie, lets talk about it, Please! All my co workers are guys, and they don't read Batgirl so I don't have an outlet for all of my Frankie love, that will talk back to me! So lets fangirl together, especially if its about Batgirl, that's a daily gush topic for me!

 Stay Nerdy,

That TIme My Comics were signed: To Zatanna

September 14, 2015

Hey Gang!

Saturday, Alex and I headed over to CincyComicon! It's a hometown convention, so it was nice, not having to worry about getting a hotel room and the other stuff that normally comes with getting ready for a convention. Getting ready for this convention, all week, and when it finally came, it was just a mess. My hair wasn't cooperating with my costume, I left my nice stack of business cards at home, AND forgot that I had a small backup stack in the case of my phone for emergencies, the heels I chose to go with my costume, was terrible on my feet, I actually walked barefoot out of the convention and on my way to the car.

I got a signed print from +Ming Doyle and +Comfort and Adam, stickers from +Allison Weyda and Emi, and Pictures with Emi and her friends, Ming Doyle, Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher! I went through the first time to get my Batgirl #1's (New 52) arc signed, but once I had finished up the convention, I wanted to go back and get a photo! These guys were soo cool! I was just able to talk to them about how much I love their work, and how when I read Gotham Academy and Batgirl, I can
find characters that look like me, and that I can relate too, I was literally gushing and fangirling, and I have no shame, I'm pretty sure Brenden and I were both tearing up.
I was dressed as Zatanna for the Convention and Cameron and Brenden were the first people to notice. He actually asked me if I wanted the signature to be made out to Zatanna, and I was like yes! Someone noticed! After that, there were a bunch more that noticed and complimented my work, and it made me feel really good, not only was it my first costume, but I was so nervous, you guys! It felt great to know that people knew what I was, and it wasn't all for naught.  Poor Alex, though, He had on a Black Adam Shirt, and a guy thought he was the flash....:( Sad Face.

Even though we only had Saturday Tickets, they allowed us to catch this awesome convention AND Bricks on the Banks, a lego exhibit! These pieces were magnificent you guys! There was a scary house with the Scooby-Doo Gang, A sentinel Battle Scene with mutants including Magneto, and Storm, Shield Helicarrier with all the "avengers" and the Bat-mobile!

I had such a great time, now to get ready for Cincinnati Comic Expo next weekend!!

 Stay Nerdy,

Comics Roundup #11: Five DC Heroines that Deserve More

September 11, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm talking about superhero ladies that just don't get the spotlight they deserve today. I know there is a huge number of them, but today I'm talking about five. I feel like this is a great conversation topic, so make sure you visit my twitter or comment down below, who would you add?

Cassandra Cain: One of the best Bat-girls of all time. Although she's mute, it isn't a disability for her, she reads body language fluently and is an excellent martial artist. Even though the Batfamily is huge; I feel like her childhood makes her different from all the others. She fights Crime to atone for her sins, even though, technically they were not her fault.

Nubia: I feel like a broken record when I talk about Nubia. I talk about her on my blog and youtube channel often, but seriously, she really does get the short end of the stick. Lets go back to her origin story. She is made from "THE SAME CLAY AS DIANA" but is forgotten, and "Kidnapped" by Ares and turned evil. So just because she's black she has to be evil? C'mon D.C. Pull yourselves together, then the only time she gets any real shine is when she is in an alternate universe and she rules with a black Superman. One thing I hate about this: Nubia is a character of her own right, she is NOT the Black version of Wonder Woman, So why is she only getting shine in an alternate world with a "black Superman"?

Bumblebee: I kind of hinted at this in my Vixen Video, but seriously, she's basically just a backdrop character for D.C. to brush off when they want to show that they are diversity friendly! She's a kick ass scientist and was an integral part of Teen Titans, in the comics, and was interested in Cyborg in the Teen Titans Cartoon. However, In the comics she actually created her shrinking suit and impressed the Titans so much that they wanted her to join them.

Vixen: Yes, she has a new Cartoon. But it's 5 minutes long AND online! There are so many people that just don't know anything about her. I really liked the Lion run with Wilson, but she deserves so much more than a 5 min animated online skit hosted on a site no one knew anything about until two weeks ago! With the ability to use the attributes of any animal, with the power of her totem, she was such a huge help during Justice League Unlimited. I just hope that this cartoon, is going to skyrocket her into some more recent comics.

Zatanna: She is pretty much D.C.'s Sorceress Supreme, and I really haven't seen hide nor hair of her in quite sometime. She's definitely a character in desperate need of her own series. I know she's been a part of Justice League Dark, But I feel like they need to do a better job of Marketing that series, because the new 52 is over, and I 'm in some desperate need of some backwards magic spells. I was a huge fan of the collaboration of Black Canary and Zatanna in Bloodspell by Paul Dini, It was soo cute!! I'd love to see more books like that, with female team-ups!

 Stay Nerdy,

Gamer Famelle: Mariah of Bizarre Brunette!

September 9, 2015

Hey Gang!

Told ya, I wasn't going to be lazy this week! Today we're talking to Mariah of Bizarre Brunette, who was sweet enough to nominate me for a Liebster a couple of weeks ago. (My second one this year!) So lets get to know a little bit about her shall we?

 Playstation or Xbox and why?

I'm a Microsoft fangirl for life! I was really late into gaming because my first system was an Xbox360 in 2007. I never had a gameboy or Playstation. Unfortunately, I haven't upgraded yet, because I'm a broke college Student, but I plan on getting an Xbox One eventually!

Sony or Nintendo for your mobile gaming?

I own a pretty purple 3DS so I definitely prefer Nintendo. I purchased this great Hello Kitty case for it, I love cats, so it's a perfect fit! Animal Crossing is super cute and addicting. I'm also playing through Pokemon X as well as other DS games such as Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days.

If you could be any villain, who would you choose and why?

I would probably be Harley Quinn from Batman Arkham Asylum. She's so crazy and fun. It would be great to just mess with Batman and be able to work with the Joker.

Name your top 5 games.

Bioshock is my favorite game of all time. It really brought me into gaming and how video games can truly be a form of art. Rapture is an incredible environment! I also really enjoyed Batman: Arkham Asylum, Max Payne 3, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

If you could be any character who would you choose and why?

KIRBY!!!! :D I think Kirby is so freaking adorable! I always play Kirby in Super Smash Bros. I would love to eat as much as I can and smile all the time, sounds like a good life to me.

If you had to live in a game's environment, which would you choose?

I would probably want to live in the environment of Far Cry 3. It's so beautiful and the water looks so clear. My only issue would be dealing with Vaas, since he's so evil.  Also Pokemon, because that would be awesome, and I want an Eevee really really bad!

Do you get a lot of flack for being a female gamer?

Unfortunately, yes. When I first started playing my 360 and Xbox live, I was 14. I had people try and hit on me, leave inappropriate pictures in my messages, and they even tried to sexualize me over the internet. I think it has toned down a little over the years, because there's more awareness about harassment. However, there is still a lot that can be improved, On my blog, I try and promote the idea that women can play games just as good, if not better than men, and that we deserve to be treated fairly and be respected.

If you were going to get a gaming tattoo, what would you get, and what's the significance for you?

I would probably get something from the original Bioshock game. It would be "Would You Kindly" with an Eve Hypo at the end of the sentence. My love for Bioshock is endless!!

When you aren't gaming, what are some of your other time-passing hobbies?

I love exercising and lifting weights. It's really therapeutic for me. I also read various graphic novels and comic books, Run a blog, and binge watch Doctor Who.

Do you enjoy games, even when there aren't any playable female characters?

Of course! When I was younger, I loved playing Dig Dug. It was a fun and addicting arcade game, without female characters. It certainly is more fun when women are well represented in video games. There's nothing worse than seeing a female character being over sexualized in a video game.

Make Sure you visit her blog and her absolutely adorable instagram!

 Stay Nerdy,

Gamer Famelle: Evon of Evon-Von!

September 7, 2015

Hey Gang!

New Week, New Female Gamer to get to know! I know I was kinda lazy last week, but don't worry, I have plenty planned for you this week! I got a chance to interview Evon from Evon Von over the weekend and I can't wait for you guys to get to know her!

Playstation or Xbox and Why?

Xbox all day. I played the very first Playstation way back in the day but I don't really remember much from it. On Xbox, I remember having a log of fun playing it (hell, I still remember playing the first Halo game.)

Name your 5 favorite Games.

Diablo 3, Injustice, Fallout 3, Street Fighter 4 and Super Smash Bros.

If you could be any character who would you choose and why?

Wonder Woman. I'd love to be a badass Amazon for one day.

Are you a fan of Pokemon? If so, what are a couple of your favorites?

I am most def a fan! My favorites are Oshawatt and JigglyPuff. Oshawatt is just funny and Jigglypuff is cute, but an asshole. I wish someone could sing me to sleep because I have really bad insominia!

What is one thing you like and don't like about being a female gamer?

I both like and dislike that I am constantly underestimated by male gamers. I love it because they don't expect me to be able to hold my own. Then I'm able to kick ass and take names on the low and surprise the hell out of them. But I hate it because the guys I play with don't think I know what I'm doing and talk a lot of shit beforehand, which is so annoying.

What would you tell parents, who don't let their children play games? Do you have any reasons why they should?

As a parent myself, I see no proublem with kids playing video games (my kiddo is 7). Granted the amount of time he is able to play is limited and WHAT he can play is also limited. But games like Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, Minecraft, and the lego games are not only fun, but they aren't graphic, bloody, or inappropriate. They are entertaining and some of them include problem solving which is always good for kids to learn. I also play games with my son, and he loves the shared experience with me.

If you were going to get a gaming tattoo, what would you get, and what is it's significance to you?

Harley Quinn from injustice, She is hands down one of my favorite female characters. I've wanted to get a tattoo of her for a long time. I could go on a while about how interesting and complex her story is and how her complete devotion to the Joker is both mental, but relatable.

When you aren't gaming, what are some of your other time-passing hobbies?

I am a cosplayer, so I am always working on costumes. I am also part of Hell on Wheels Roller Derby.

Do you enjoy games, even when there aren't any playable female characters?

I do. The only time I even think about the gender of the characters is if there is an option. But if there are female characters, I usually choose them.

What are some up and coming games that you are looking foward to?

Fallout 4, Deadpool and Halo 5: Guardians

Gamer Famelle: Jessi Of Butterfly Samurai

September 2, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm so excited to bring you Jessi today! Jessi runs Butterfly Samurai and a notoriously lively and popular Twitter  if you aren't following you really should! Today she's going to talk her favorite console, why she loves gaming and her gaming tattoo wishes. So without further ado, lets go get to know her!!

Playstation or Xbox and Why?

Playstation. I am a hardcore (and very local) Playstation fangirl and enthusiast. I just love everything about Playstation- been a ride or die since I was in Elementary School. My parents bought me a N64 for Christmas and I asked them if I could have a Playstation One instead. They returned it, and the rest was history! I couldn't imagine not being so in love with Sony.

What do you like to see in your games? What about them makes that your favorite?

Not exactly what I like to "see" but a good story is the best aspect of a game to me. Interactively going through an amazing and complex story really drives me to complete a game. This is why games such as Bioshock Infinite and The Order 1886 challenge me with their gameplay, but also intrigue me with their well crafted stories.

Do you have a gaming role model? If so, Who and Why?

I have a couple that I am so happy to be able to call friends! I absolutely love Melonie Mac - a youtuber who is so genuine and built her channel with such integrity. I also really adore Kelly/Mrs Violence. She streams on Twitch and was previously on WCG Ultimate Gamer.  Also, I love the Frag Dolls. This team of women really pushed me to want to work in the gaming industry.

Name your Top 5 Favorite Games.

Kingdom Hearts 2, Bioshock Infinite, Catherine, Pokemon Trading Card Game (on Gameboy Color!), and Dance Dance Revolution Extreme.

Are you a fan of Pokemon? If so, what are a couple of your favorites?

Yes, I really love Pokemon! It has been on of the franchises that has stuck with me for a large majority of my life. My favorite game out of the series was definitely Pokemon Silver. My favorite pokemon are Sylveon and Jirachi. When I was younger, however, I was obsessed with Togepi.

What is one thing you enjoy and don't enjoy about being a female gamer?

It may sound odd, but I love how unique it makes me - a unicorn. Although statistics say that female gamers outnumber males now. I still live in an area where there aren't many women that play video games. A girl playing video games is still so rare here that it certainly makes me stand apart from the ordinary. What I don't like is the misoginy that occurs in the industry. The comments that female gamers receive can be down right horrible. I've also been told before that I don't deserve to attend gaming conventions....like, I have been gaming for 23 years! How can I NOT deserve it just because I'm a woman?

Do you get a lot of flack for being a female gamer? Have you ever had any harassment issues online?

Yes. Just like I previously mentions. I've been told that I do not deserve to attend gaming events or game. It is ridiculous to be told like like I'm "fake" and only game for attention. I was five years old with a controller in my hands and I'm now 28 years old, still with controllers. I've also tried to play video games with certain men that critique every little move I make. I remember playing Portal 2 with an ex. I was solving nearly evertyhing but he still talked down to me about how I was playing. It was not innocent trash talk because it made me feel bad. There is room for everyone to play games. There are plenty of consoles to buy, games to play and controllers to hold. No one should be excluded because they're a woman. Or black. Or old.

If you were going to get a gaming tattoo, what would you get and what is it's significance to you?

I would get a chibi playstation controller, Need I say more? I am obviously obsessed!

What are some up and coming games, that you're looking forward to?

Yoshi's Wooly World! If it is anything like Kirby's Epic Yarn then that means it's going to be undeniably cute and fun! Further in the future, I am so hype for uncharted 4. It should be a great end to my favorite franchise.

What would be your dream game crossover? What's one Game Crossover that has been done that you thoroughly enjoy?

Tomb Raider/Uncharted please! I would love for Lara and Nathan to traverse some tombs together. Super Smash brothers is my favorite crossover, it's amazing!

If you had the chance  to say one thing to your favorite game's creator/publisher what would it be and why?

Dear Supergiant Games, Thank you so much for Bastion and Transistor. Bastion was my first forway into indie games and opened up an entire world to me. You're such an amazing company that I support wholeheartedly.
XoXo,
 Jessi
