Comics Roundup #19: My 8 Favorite Comics of 2015!

December 30, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm back with more end of the year goodness. I will keep this short and sweet, because the video games post definitley ran a little bit long. I know some of you are wondering about the end of the Comic Palooza list, DON'T WORRY its coming! I was going to slate them for this week release but I decided to push them back a bit so I could give you guys these awesome lists, so it will finish up the week after next and then we'll be onto new comics books for the new year! Just like with the games post, I don't have them in any particular order these are just titles that I thoroughly enjoyed this year.

Mystery Girl (Dark Horse): Even though it didn't start until closer to the end of the year. I am in LOVE with this series. You follow a girl named Trine, who can solve any mystery you bring her way, except how she can do it. The only Sidewalk detective, you know the adventure is bound to be good, especially with her heading off to Siberia to find Wooly Mammoths.

Batgirl (DC): Gail Simone is a master. Her writing is bar none. When Batgirl got a new creative team I was concerned I wouldn't like it. I shouldn't have fretted, Brenden Fletcher has become one of my favorite writers in the short span of a year. Babs Tarr, my favorite artist, under Dustin (Little Gotham will never be forgotten. ) I love how much lighter the story has gotten. It's just an easy read and with the art and the delightful new characters, I hope this Batgirl is around to stay for some time.

Gotham Academy (DC): Also written by Fletcher, this mystery solving duo in a boarding school crack me up! Its like batman, Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo all rolled into one, what more could you ask for? Olive is a diverse and unique girl trying to uncover the mystery of her mother.Let me know if Maps is you're favorite too. She is an adorable underclassman with a huge imagination and an even bigger curiousity to explore the mysteries of her boarding school. I mean, its even got ghosts! Plus all the cameos? Batman, Red Robin, Damian, it goes on and on!

Monstress (Image): A MUCH Darker story than the ones mentioned above. Monstress follows Meika a hybrid with disabilities as she tries to stay alive, stay out of slavery and solve the mysteries of where she comes from and where she's supposed to be going. The art is one of the most glorious I've seen splash pages this year, and the story is just starting to get good. Issue two was released last week and I hope everyone went out and go it, I can't wait to see what occurs in the new year.

Zodiac Starforce (Dark Horse): Waiting for more Sailor Moon Crystal? Still haven't gotten your fix? Well look no further than this story! Its got all the color, more diversity and all the magical girlness that you are missing from your life, Plus more space and astronomy signs then you can shake a stick at. The characters are adorable and well rounded, and even though the story has just started, I already have a favorite and look forward to more adventures in the new year, plus the villians are serious, and an actual challenge for our heroes.

Bombshells (DC): Based off popular art series of the same title, this comic series features a portion of DC heroines that you may know and love, but is severly lacking on the diversity. I love the art and the story, all DC heroines being gathered up by Amanda Waller to be used as part of a female military operation during World War II to fight Nazis, but DC has a HUGE roster of Female characters and a lot of them are not being used. I love the way the title started and I'm hoping into the next year they will expand the diversity of the characters being featured. Still a great read though.

A-Force (Marvel): I was so excited when this series started, the first all female Avengers team? How could you say no? So many women were featured on the front cover I was so excited to see more. Although the (Secret Wars Prequel) series has ended they will release an ongoing series later in the year. I'm hoping for way more characters to be featured in the story, and even though Marvel seems to be the forerunner for diversity as of lately (Captain America, Thor, Miss Marvel) A-Force falls flat. The characters that run the story are all main ones you've heard of before no one new, and Miss America (Latina) gets tossed out of the story within the first two issues.

Silk (Marvel): I've never been a huge Spider-man fan before. I've watched the cartoons, I've seen the movies, but I never read the stories. I tried Spider-woman and that was just terrible (Looking at you Bendis), so I had kind of gave up on it. Until I saw Cindy Moon! She's so adorable and close to Peter Parker, and able to fit into the main story line without having to create their own universe (Ahem Spider-Gwen) Plus, I just marvel at the diversity featured in this comic. I love that they continued the series after its (Secret Wars Prequel) because I wanted to see how Cindy was going to do against other villains than just Black Cat. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE CUTESY ART!!!

What have you been reading lately? Did you have any favorites from the year before? Tell me all about it on Twitter! Lets Talk Comics!

Stay Nerdy,

My 10 Favorite Games of 2015!

December 28, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm back from Christmas Hiatus and I feel super well rested and ready to get back into the blogging groove of things. I haven't ever done this type of post before but I realized that going into the new year I wanted to try new things and I also wanted to take you guys along for the ride.  What better way to finish out the year then going over the awesome things that came out of it? For the entire week, I will be going over my favorite Video Games, Comics/Book and Film/Television of 2015 and I hope you'll join me for this unprecendeted event! So Since, you are here, lets get started!!! For the year of 2015, I have only owned a 3DSXL and a PS3, so those will be the only ones featured. I want them to be ranked and based on my experience and performance of the game, NOT how popular they are. You can get that old news anywhere.

Kirby Triple Deluxe (3DS):  So I have to be honest, other than Kirby's Epic Yarn, I have never played a Kirby Game. When I came across Triple Deluxe in Game Stop, I fell in love. The colors and the music and even the game play was perfect. Although, I have died quite a few too many times trying to discover if there are hidden crevices holding sweets or sunstones, the game is a 9.5 on the fun scale. Not only are you able to play as Kirby climbing the beanstalk ladder to get his home back to normal, but you also have the opition of playing as King Dedede Drum Dashl; a rythim based game and ALSO using Kirby and any one of his awesome skills to defend your title in Kirby Fighters! It has a little bit of everything for everyone. I absolutely adore How cute Kirby is, and I am kicking myself for not trying him out sooner.

Persona Q (3DS): I know I have written about Persona Q a few times on the blog over the past year. Persona Q is an easy to jump into RPG with Two tracks for you to explore. Persona 4 or Persona 3 and even though I had never experienced a Persona game before it wasn't hard to get into the groove, especially with how awesome the music is. The art is beautiful and you don't lose anything playing on the 3DS compared to the PS3, sure the characters are SD, but they don't cut any corners! I love the alice in Wonderland ish style of Labyrinth and I love being able to combine different characters to create awesome moves to destroy my enemies. The ability to splice persona's together is pretty smooth too.

Pokemon Shuffle (3DS): As a huge fan of Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for the GBA (I still own and play often), it was super nice to have a puzzle game with pokemon for a new generation. Although its not the same as the original, its puzzle-y enough to sate my thirst when I need a break from Professor Layton. I love the super crazy combos that you're able to create, all by moving the right pokemon I also the love the multiplayer aspect to it, the ability for spot pass and playing online, is pretty neat. Plus it pretty much updates when your system does so it never gets old. I love the little tournaments and online scoring it has, I love seeing the new secret pokemon.

Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS): If you didn't know already I'm a pretty big Pokemon Fan, so when they gave me the ability to replay one of my old favorites with new tricks, how could I say no? The only thing that I wasn't a fan of ; they introduced customizability with X and Y characters and then they took it away! However, it was very nice to see some old favorites again, including my buddies Ralts and Shroomish. I fell in love with the ability to creep up on unsuspecting pokemon and be rewarded with unique stats and moves. (Is that creepy?) I wasn't a fan of not being able to have a Pikachu, but since it was only for one game I guess I'll survive.

Professor Layton V.s Ace Attorney (3DS): I'll keep this brief, I know I go on about Professor Layton a lot, but it really is because its an amazing game! I love the way they put this game together. The ability to not only solve missions as either Herschel or Phoenix but together as they save isabella from Certain doom in the courtroom. I love how interactive the game is, you really feel like you are there running for you life from simple country folk that hate magic. If you like a good puzzle game, or you are interested in getting more Professor Layton or Ace Attorney action, this Game is IT!

Bravely Default (3DS): I have waited two years to play this game. Two years, and now as I have spent the last three days straight I can tell you that it was worth EVERY MINUTE. The picture is FLAWLESS, the art, orgasmically beautiful and it is one of the few games I enjoy playing with the sound on. I generally don't like RPG's because they are very time consuming and I am not the most patient gamer, HOWEVER, this game is preetty neat! I'm only on level 6 but as you continue to battle other fighters, you can collect a unique set of skills to create the ultimate battle formation. Right now I'm a monk, and Tiz looks so adorable in his monk uniform and his new found martial arts skills. My Agnes's is a White Mage now, I see a cosplay in my near future.

FairyTale Fights (PS3): I am a huge fan of open world melee rpg games. I'm just not about that drop down menu life. This one is super fun. The ability to grab almost anything and use it as a weapon, following only slightly twisted fairy tales stories that we know and love, and being able to get away with bloody murder. And then slide around in it. This bloody great game (See what I did there?) is all about wreaking the most havoc on your enemies. They actually count up how many seriously violent kills you have had, and how much blood was shed, whoever has the most wins the round. The characters are adorably morbid and easily recognizable you get the choice of Snow White, Jack, The Naked Emperor and Little Red Riding Hood.

Ultra Street Fighter IV (PS3): Although, I have played both the arcade and super version of this game, Ultra was BETTER. Having access to literally almost all of the Street Fighter characters in history, it is also THE fighting Tournament version. If you were even thinking about competing this is the version for you. I actually picked up for the sole purpose of competing. It's a fun time playing with others online, the only thing I'd have to say is to look out for the lag. I had some serious problems with online play for the first couple of weeks I had it. If you've been a fan of Street Fighter Since Alpha (like me) this is the game for you, and its also a good way to get into it if you are interested in getting used to the story before Five comes out...Whenever that may be.

Code Of Princess (3DS): Another Hack and Slash RPG, I love the melee attacks. I also love that three out of four of your team are all female. I love how sweet and caring the Princess is, even if the combo's make my fingers ache. I love this game becuase the music is decent and the dialogue between characters are pretty funny. I love the Necromancer, her wit reminds me of the likes of Veronica Mars, which is always a win if you ask me. I like that the game doesn't take itself to seriously, even the villians make jokes at each others expense and when you defeat something, it gets added to your character list, if you finish the game, you are able to play as anything you EVER fought against, I can't wait to start beating up the generals as trees. That's just going to be awesome.

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 (DS): I know this is a super oldie, but I never tried any lego games before so this is TOTALLY NEW FOR ME! Why in the world did it take me so long? I must have been hiding behind the pain of cramped feet and stubbed toes, from my childhood. Those things were deadly! However, with the game you can have the fun of building without the pain! Plus, its full of puzzle and HARRY POTTER! I'm in love. I've been playing it on and off for the past couple of months and its pretty awesome and just a breeze. Its not so ridiculously easy, that you shouldn't bother with it, but its a nice puzzle game you could play when you are taking a break from ridiculously difficult math puzzles that plague me on the daily.

So those are my 10 top favorite games of this year? What are yours? What have you been Playing lately? Tell me on Twitter!!!

Nerdette Minute #9: The Hunt for the Perfect Dress and High Tea Antics

December 16, 2015

Hey Gang!

I know posting has been kind of wonky, but I have been so crazy busy!! This past weekend I was on the hunt for the perfect dress for Alex's holiday work party. But work kept getting in the way. I was thinking to myself, I'll look for a dress Tuesday Morning, then it was Wednesday Morning, then the next thing I know its the day of at 2 P.M. and I'm scouring the racks in the mall looking for something elegant and still me. Ugh, I hate how time gets away from me like that. I can wake up with the best intentions, a whole list of things that I know I want to do, and get accomplished, and then suddenly, its 4 P.M. and I"M LIKE WHERE DID THE DAY GO?!?!?!
That's why I'm so mobile, Why my mini has a keyboard, because I don't have enough time at home to do what I need to get done, it has to come along with me! I stopped into Hot Topic and got this super pretty Burgundy Filigree Skull Velvet Dress, and it had an oval keyhole in the back, as soon as I saw it, I was like this is it! Then I picked up a few pairs of earrings, and some Totoro Tights, and then I was off, looking for the perfect heels for the event.
I'm shorter than Alex so I absolutely love any opportunity to wear heels. It makes me feel good, and puts us on equal footing. (See what I did there?) So I hopped over to Rue 21, and low and behold there they were. Black platform Wedges with straps. They were glorious! Like there was sunshine light auras and everything! I tried them on and walked around the shop and I was so excited, I picked them up and then drove home.
We got dressed and Drove off to the party. We Parked. We opened the door. We stepped outside the car. I stepped forward. And there went my strap. Just COMPLETELY BROKE OFF. Thank goodness, I decided to bring my flats so I could drive home, because otherwise, I'd have walked into the party barefoot. I WAS SO AGGRAVATED, Like I can't even describe it, I was seething for the first hour. Then we ate the most delicious greenbeans. Its not even...I can't... Ah, It was on point! I had three helpings, there was a baked Potato Bar, AND PRIME RIB!! I was thoroughly full, the food was GREAT!
There was a dance Contest AND we played ping pong. I've never had so much fun playing Ping Pong before! Alex and I played each other and then we played another couple, and it felt like a game of badminton. It was a great time. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
On Sunday, My mother invited me to High Tea at the Cincinnatian Hotel. I love her to death, but that was probably the WORST day to have High Tea Downtown. It was a football game, and some other event that had Downtown in the worst traffic jam I had ever seen. Google said it was only 6 minutes away, but it took me 15 minutes to park, and then walk to the Cincinnatian. I'm not sure if its ever come up on the blog before, but I do NOT like Tea, or Coffee. So I was really excited when I realized that they had regular Soda. I had Sprite in a wine glass, I felt pretty fancy, if I do say so myself.

My Sister ordered Chicken and Waffle (S) even though there was only one, but she seemed to like it ok. My Cousin ordered Steak and Egg Flatbread and Crepes. I would have gotten the crepes as well, but they had coconut Quinoa in them, and I'm allergic. I got Pancakes and a Side of Potatoes. My Mother got the House Breakfast and a Dutch Apple Pancake. I wasn't able to taste that one either, nuts were sprinkled over it. We took a horse carriage ride around the block, and stopped by the book store. All in All, this past weekend was so much fun, and I even remembered to vlog a little! I hope you guys enjoyed your weekend as much as I did. If you are liking these kinds of posts, please let me know. I'm trying to come up with new content and I want to make sure that its content you guys are going to want to read! See ya Next Time!!

These are something new I am trying out on the youtube, so please like, share or comment, so I know if you like it or not! I'm not sure what happened, but it got kind of curse-word-y? So just a heads up!!

Love Pon Pays a visit!

December 4, 2015

Hey Gang!
A couple of days ago I was surfing the internet and discovered the amazingness that is Princess Love Pon! Princess Love Pon is a webcomic written and drawn by Shauna J. Grant and when I tell you that is as amazing as it is adorable, I am telling you the truth, I have already read all of its buffer and am ready to begin reading it when it updates again.
The Story following Lia and her friends Rachel and Luis, as she has been contacted by Hunnie, a flying rabbit who tells her that she is the open heart she has been looking for. Together they fight baddies with kisses and in heels. So far she has only beaten up two baddies but I am absolutely in love with the way the story is unfolding and the art style. Plus, FINALLY a Magical Girl that looks like Me. Representation is so important and I absolutely love picking the brains of artists who agree!

How did Princess Love Pon come to be?
I’m currently 26 years old, born and raised in the Bronx, New York! I love comics and animation, I’m obsessed with cute things, and the color pink. Magical girl shows like Sailor Moon are pretty much the reason I love to draw at all. I’ve been working on my art seriously for over ten years now.

Are there any artists inspiring you right now?
Princess Love Pon came to be from my desire to write my own magical girl series. I had been tossing around a few ideas in my head for a few years now before trying to narrow it all down into a simpler story. Of course I could;ve probably made it more simpler but... Haha! For Love Pon, I focused on the image of a girl eating hearts and went from there. Okay, I know that sounds kinda gruesome, but I promise everything I do is really really cute. I was thinking what would a story be like if there was a girl out there eating hearts ( or rather representations of "hearts") and a girl who had to protect them? What kind of feelings would that involve for both girls? And for the one who's out there being a heroic magical girl, especially one who had to deal with people's personal feelings, how would that affect her personal life? Her romantic relationships? I wanted to draw a cute story of a cute girl fighting cutely and seeing other people's insecurities, insecurities she tries to help them through, and how all those feelings would affect her. This is definitely more Princess Tutu-like than Sailor Moon!

Are Rachel, Luis or Lia based off of anyone in your life?
In a way, yes! Most of the characters in Princess Love Pon are kinda bits and pieces of myself, inspired by situations and feelings I've dealt with growing up, or situations I've seen my friends go through.

How would you describe your art style?
Soft, Cute, Round and COLORFUL. I want my art to look as cuddly and inviting as possible, regardless the actual content, haha!

What do you do when you aren't working on your art or comic?
At the moment art is my full-time gig! I travel all over to table in artist alleys at anime conventions. It's really fun and I love meeting people, and it especially warms my heart when folks remember me from previous years! Things have gotten even more fun now that I started working on Princess Love Pon because I can talk more about my own original work and it's really exciting to hear "Hey, you draw that webcomic!"

What is one thing you want people to take away when they're done reading your comic?
Princess Love Pon is still in its beginning phases and I'll admit I'm still switching things up as I go along..But I hope at the end of the day that people will read this series and learn to be a little easier on themselves. A lot of the characters in this story are insecure, feeling the pressure of turning into the perfect adult, worried about who may or may not love them, or how to love themselves... I want people to know it's okay to not be perfect. It's okay to feel sad. Most Importantly, it's okay to get right back up and keep going and do what is best for you!

If you could collaborate with another artist or writer, who would be your dream collaboration?
This is a toughie! There are so many cool artists and writers out there, I don't even know where to begin. I guess for starters, though, I would like to eventually do a collaboration with my bestie and amazing artist Bo Ae Lee (krazehcakes.tumblr.com) There is one magical girl story we are still trying to sort out~!

Do you have any advice for people starting with comics?
The best and most simplest advice that I hear from all the other cartoonists out there is if you want to draw comics you have to start drawing comics! Even though I have a college background in comics this has somehow still been (and still is hahaha) my biggest hurdle. For me it's really intimidating! But It's really fun once you get into it and find yourself a story you're real passionate about. It's good to start small and do short comics before settling into a larger story, but hey, you are the boss of your domain and you should do what you like-- you'll still be learning anyway! Read lots of comics! Western, Manga, Mainstream, Indie, Webcomics, Etc... Find the kind of stories that really grab you, see what the artist is doing with their panel layouts, and try it all out yourself! Read Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud and just sit down and draw comics and show them off!

Do you find any difficulty in being an artist of Color?

Yes and no! I haven't squeezed myself into more commercial art yet and mostly been focusing on slowly building up my own stuff. I haven't had trouble so far promoting my work, and have a lot of people of all backgrounds saying how much they enjoy seeing a diverse magical girl series. I won't say the art world is perfect for people of color though! Especially in the comic industry. While it's a lot safer going the self-publish route, when it comes to companies hiring more artists of color, I believe there's still a long way to go and I am absolutely a big supporter of more people of color getting involved! It's really nice that a lot more diverse characters are showing up in comics and cartoons, but it would be even more amazing if there were more diverse creators behind those projects!

Where would you like to see your comic go?
Right now, I would just love to see Princess Love Pon make it to the finish line, haha! I have so many more stories I would love to tell after Love Pon, so my comic will definitely not be one that never ends. I would just be absolutely happy if it becomes a well-loved comic, an enjoyable experience, and a story that gets collected in printed volumes. I want to watch my art and storytelling improve as I work on it and just craft the best story as I can! And when it eventually makes it to the final chapter I hope my fans will excitedly follow along to the story that follows afterwards!

Make sure to support Shauna and Princess Love Pon by visiting her site, or ordering a commission!

Comics Round Up #18 Spoilers

December 2, 2015

Hey Gang!

New Month, and I'm ready for a whole new slew of comics to tell ya guys about! Today, I'm covering Paper Girls #1-2, Batgirl #44-45 and Monstress #1.

Paper Girls, Monstress, Batgirl

Paper Girls #1 -2: I'm a little confused about the time line for Papergirls. Are they in the 60's? The 40'? or is it a recent timeline? There are apple products, but they're using walkie - talkies to communicate while on their routes? I love that they are actually papergirls though. I think its such a cute and interested idea. I like that they are the first ones, and I like that they stick up for each other. They're kind of potty mouths, but whatever, It's literally papergirls fighting Aliens, what more could you want?

Batgirl #44-#45: Can we geek out over Frankie being able to control things with her mind? Like Seriously, that is amazeballs. I'm a little annoyed that we don't have any villains that last more than an issue or two. I feel like the story is constantly restarting every issue. Pretty excited about Barbara and Luke, even though it feels pretty rushed. Can we talk about how colorful the wedding issue is? Oh my goodness, just looking at it fills me with joy!

I like Grayson and All, but there really was no need to have him in this issue, he just seems cheesy. Although I did think the chase scene was pretty cute. I love how prepared Barbara is for the wedding, she is ON IT! I love how happy all the girls look in the wedding issue, and it even looks like Babs, Frankie and Dinah are becoming fast friends. Why can't they have one good, fun filled issue? Who is the that guy? Why is he counting down? Ugh, Poor Babs, I hope it isn't mind control.

Monstress #1: Lets just take a minute to pause and respect how freaking beautiful the art is in this comic. It is one of the most beautiful book I have ever seen!!! The art is what drew me to the comic, and now that I'm reading the story, I am NOT a fan of the slavery aspect. I do really like how strong Meika's character is. Although, I am a little confused about how I should be rooting for, I like that Ilsa might be a double agent, but I'm not too sure. As long as Meika keeps Kippa safe, then she's A-OK with me. I am so anxious for the next issue. I want to know what happens NEXT!!

Have you been reading anything new and exciting? Leave em down below, or tell me on Twitter!

P.S. CONGRATULATIONS TO SERENA POWELL, THE WINNER OF THE BATGIRL GIVEAWAY!!!

Series #15: 7 Favorite Anime

November 30, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm so excited to write about anime today guys! I don't usually talk about anime much, there are a lot of bloggers that have that topic underwraps. However, lately, I've been watching a lot of Hulu, and their anime options are absolutely glorious! I thought since I was on the search for a new anime to watch, I decided that I would tell you guys about my favorite anime of past years.

Sailor Moon: For most people Sailor Moon was their gateway to anime. I know it was a pretty big anime for me. It was an open door for learning about girl power, feminism, Sexual orientations, gender identification and it was extremely progressive for its time. I'm currently re-watching the series, complete with the episodes that weren't brought over the first time, Its a huge jump back to my childhood and I welcome its simple value on an empty off day.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Was my first C.L.A.M.P. anime. The art was so beautiful and I was so inspired. I wanted to draw just like Clamp, so my dad actually bought me an entire Manga series: Clamp School Detectives, which I still treasure to this day. Although, Sakura didn't seem very tough, I stil thoroughly enjoyed the anime, both movies and the music still pops up occassionally on my ipod. I loved the character development and my favorite characters were Tomoyo, Spinel Sun and Yukito.

Magical Knight Rayearth: Also a C.L.A.M.P. work, I remember having the first 5 episodes on VHS. It's available on Hulu, So I've started re-watching it, but I remember being so enthralled by all of the magic, and plus Mokona is SO CUTE!!! I was also really particial to the aspect of making their own weapons as the show continued, and the music was amazing.

R.O.D. T.V.: This is one of my top favorites. It's all women and their paper masters. Can we stop for a second and have a moment of relief  for female protagonst anime without fan service?! It was perfect, Mystery, Fantasy, Magic, and a whole cornicopia of books. This show gave me serious book envy, and some new titles to rent from the library.

Angelic Layer: Another clamp work, this anime follows a middle schooler that has difficulty making friends, until she discovers fighting dolls that can be customized and controlled by the owner's brain. I like that the protagonist wasn't very strong, but she was determined and made her way all the way to the top, she became champion and even found her mother, whom was sick and unable to care for her. It is  great story for children having trouble with self esteem and finding themselves.

Super Gals: I originally discovered the manga tucked away in my local library. I loved the art and the way Ran stood up for her friends, and her unshaking sense of justice. When I discovered the anime, I was so excited. It had some pretty problematic language, I absolutely fell in love with how badly Miyu wants to shed her Gang persona and work for redemption. I loved the fashion and the show was pretty funny.

Revolutionary Girl Utena: I was pretty excited when my dad first showed me Utena. I was like 7 or 8 and finally there was an anime character that looked like me. Sure I didn't have purple hair but give me a few years, I was working on it. Revolutionary girl utena was a lot of things for me. Gay and lesbian couples, domestic abuse, just utter weirdness. Like the guy becomes a car and then drives away. Plus the music was absolutely dazzling and I yearned to be able to play the gentle and demanding themes on my violin and then later my flute.

Reason #5: He is a Born Leader!!

Reason #4: Technologically Savvy, I drool over his gadgets!

Reason #3: He made a better batman during the Battle of the Cowl Run. In Batman: Reborn, audiences saw a lighter and friendlier Batman paired with a brooding and dark Robin, the Stories draw and written by Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly. He's Batman with a conscience.

Reason #2: Incredibly Talented. Amazing Gymnast. Fluent in: Tamaranean, French, Latin, and Farsi. Plus, he plays GUITAR!!!

Reason #1: He's so much cooler than the other Robins.

Do you like Dick Grayson? Tell me why below! Or we can talk about it on Twitter!

What are you thankful for?

November 23, 2015

Hey Gang!

With Thanksgiving literally in less than five days, I wanted to tell you guys what I'm thankful for this year. This year has been pretty great honestly, and I would like to use this post to highlight the awesomeness that has occurred this year. So lets just get right to it!!

5. My relationship with Alex. On the 7th, Alex and I had our two year anniversary. I am so fortunate to have found someone who fits with me like the missing piece to my life's puzzle. Plus he makes me laugh, what more do you need?

4. Being close to my family. Even though, I have my own little place, I'm still not to far away
from my family to where I can't just pop by and go see them. I love that my family is all in one place, because they mean the World to me.

3. Having my own mode of transportation. I started driving late, I was already twenty-one. Having a car, is the equivalent to pure freedom for me. Being able to wake up and decide that I want to go somewhere, and then get in my car and actually go? It's an undescribeable feeling, and if you don't know about it, I suggest getting your own mode of transportation to see how it feels.

2.  My Cats. If you guys weren't aware, I have two cats. An Orange Tiger named Geronimo (Male) and a Grey Striped Fluffy Cat Which I'm pretty sure is part Manecoon named Kahn (Female). They are so adorable and cuddly and I just love them to pieces. They meet me at the door when I come home from work and they snuggle me before I leave. They're just the bees Knees.

1. Being healthy and alive for another year.  This is the big one. I may not be rich, and my life may not be perfect, but without this, I couldn't have the other four things I'm thankful for. I thank whoever is up there, thats looking out for me, and is blessing me with another day to spend with Alex, and My Cats and My Family.

What are you guys thankful for? Tell me below, or on Twitter!! Also don't forget to enter the giveaway for Batgirl Issues 36-40! There's Still 8 more days to enter!!!

 Stay Nerdy,

Comic Round Up #17 SPOILERS!

November 18, 2015

Hey Gang!

I hope you guys read the previous post! Make sure you don't miss out on the giveaway going on! Issues #36 through #40! I'm going to be covering Black Canary #4-5, Gotham Academy #10-11 and Zodiac Starforce #1! Since there are so many comics that I need to get through Lets just get to the good stuff!

Zodiac StarForce: I've been following Paulina Ganucheau on Twitter for a while now, and I love her art so much! I love that this comic is a magical girl story with some diversity. I hope they are queer baiting with Lilly. I really like her and want them to be together, because they make a really cute couple Whats up with the Evil Girl Gang? and Kidnapping Alice? How does that work? Who just kidnaps a girl and then brings her back to school like nothing ever happened?! I am not a fan of how Emma treats Molly, She only wants the team back together again, and it appears that Molly was left out of hang outs and such because of her obsession with the monsters and that didn't seem cool to me. However, it is mentioned that Emma Lost her mother is the battle, so I can understand where she was coming from. I can't wait for the next issue!

Gotham Academy: Olive's Mom is still alive? Can we talk about the cameos in this?!?! Clay Face's Daughter, poor Katherine. If I had a child I would be highly concerned about student safety if they attended that school. Also these issues in particular, screamed Hogwarts to me, did anyone else get that vibe? How freaking adorable is Maps? Like seriously, she's my spirit animal. I love the "all robins are red" joke. I need to know who did the art for the fire Flashback because it is freaking beautiful! Like seriously!!!Plus a key to Arkahm? I can't wait for the next issue, I need to know whats up!!

Black Canary: The Story is getting so freaking good! I really don't like Bo but she is the bad guy, so its probably expected. I wonder what Ditto can do that has all these people trying to kidnap her, and whats up with that record label. There's totally something funky going on there. I was so geeked to see Crossovers! I loved that Frankie was helping Dinah run the trace! I also need to know who the White Ninja is, and if Bo has Canary Type powers now. Ugh, two issues and all I have now is MORE QUESTIONS!!!!

Have you guys been reading anything good?  Tell me on Twitter!!!

Comic Round UP #16: UPALOOZA + Giveaway!

November 16, 2015

Hey Gang!
Right before Halloween, I stopped into my local Comic shop dressed as Totoro and grabbed some comics. I grabbed the ones they put aside for me and then I grabbed a tradeback. I hadn't been in a month, so I was actually kind of scared at the sheer amount of money I would be spending but it honestly wasn't that bad. With Spider-Woman and Silk and A-force over, there won't be a lot to pick up until November.
I was really looking forward to being able to pick up Niobe. I met Ashley at C2E2 this year and she's totally awesome, I can't wait to support about it. Unfortunately, I was unable to pick it up because they weren't able to order it in, so I will have to stop by another comic shop or order it online from comixology, which I don't want to do because I actually like collecting issues...
After picking up ALL OF THESE COMICS, I realized that there are just WAY WAY WAY too many to put into one blog post, so welcome to the UPalooza! I have purchased 19 Comics, so I am going to write up 4 separate posts to help create bite sized reviews of about 4 to 5 comics for my lovely readers!!!
Once I figured out how I wanted to organize the posts that are coming soon, I then took photos and put them away. They filled up the last space in my longbox. I only have one because I had just gotten back into collecting comics, with my ex. I share the love with my father, who reads them and I watched the cartoons and movies and such but before meeting my ex, I didn't read the comics. It took two years to fill up my comic box, and I"m pretty excited about it!!

- Beware the Creeper

- Black Canary #5

I also picked up The first tradeback of Batgirl by Tarr, Fletcher and Stewart, which means I don't need the single issues that I picked up before So I will be giving them away!!! You guys support me so much and I wanted to give you back a little something.  So I'll be giving away Issues #36-40!

Gamer Famelle: Ashle Danger

November 11, 2015

Hey Gang!
I am so excited to have Ashle Danger on the blog today!!! If you don't know who she is, she's Editor in Chief for Strange Wonderful, an all around Amazing site and resource for Nerds and Nerdettes Alike. A huge xbox gamer, I figured it would be super fun to find out why!

Playstation or Xbox and Why?

Xbox. I started out with the 360 and now I have the Xbox One. Most of my friends have Xbox so it made the most sense and I love it now.

Sony or Nintendo for your mobile gaming?

Nintendo. I've been playing with Gameboys since I was a kid and I still have one. I also have a DS.

What do you like to see in your games? What about them makes that game your favorite?

I always think of my gaming taste as a little acquired. I get bored very easily especially if its a game that takes too long to make it through objectives or check points. I really do love Platformers and Fighting Games, but I also really enjoy games with a great storyline. Life is Strange is a perfect example.

If you could be any villain, who would you choose and why?

That's a tough one because it would depend on the genre. If we're talking movies, I think I'd have to go after Maleficient, she's such a bad ass and she's got magical powers. I think I'd want to be able to conjure up some chaos, but I think the hat would have to go. I'd let my horns rock out. But on another note I'd want to be Catwoman as well, she's always kick ass. I think being able to wear leather or latex is always a good indication of a great bad girl. Plus, she only steals from the rich.

If you could be any hero, who would you choose and why?

Storm from Xmen. I love her story, and the fact she started out on the wrong path, she found her way back by using her powers for good. She's very connected with nature and is also very responsible. She cares deeply about the people she calls friends and family, she'd bring down the sky to protect them.

Name Your Top 5 Favorite Games.

Kirby's Dreamland, Lollipop Chainsaw, Pokemon, Tekken and Final Fantasy.

If you could be any character who would it be and why?

Lightening from Final Fantasy. She's a tough girl with a lot of responsibility and she's willing to fight for what she believe's in. She's a trained soldier and high in rank, she always does what she thinks is best for others even if they don't see it that way, she's got a big heart.

Are you a fan of Pokemon? If so who are a couple of your favorites?

I love Pokemon. Pikachu is Bae. I also have major love for Oshawott, Vulpix and MewTwo.

Do you any limited editions of platforms?

 I have a Pikachu Edition 3DS XL

Are there any games taht are popular overseas, that you wish would be brought to the states?

 Pokemon: Pokken Tournament!

What are your personal feelings about Gamergate? What do you think the Gaming Industry can do to make women feel more included? What would you like to see them fix?

I personally feel women should stop looking to men to make them feel more included. They should start including themselves. I wish I would wait on a man to make room for me. As women, if we embraced each other more and connected for more opportunities we wouldn't feel the need to be accecpted by them. The reaon why even though women make up the bigger spectrum of gaming now, but aren't involved in the industry is because men are pack creatures and stick together. Women are constantly competing with each other instead of embracing each other. Even as women, once we hurdle the "We are Women" issue, we still have a lot more to accomplish when considering the issue of color. How many female black gamers or video game show hosts can you name?

If you were going to get a gaming tattoo, what would you get and what is it's significance to you?

I actually have a Pokeball tattoo and a Pikachu with Crossbones.

When you aren't gaming, what are some of your other time-passing hobbies?

I'm actually in school full time as an Art Design Interactive Media and Broadcasting double major. My hobbies are pretty much all art focused from Graphic Design to Photography. I enjoy attending different gaming events, such as the NBA Live 16 even and the FIFA 16 launch party.

If you had the chance to say one thing to your favorite game's creator/publisher what would it be and why?

Mr. Satoru Iwata, Thank you for bringing tons of joy to Nintendo, you will be missed. R.I.P.

Make sure you visit her instagram and her website, they're looking for Bloggers and contributors!!

Inclusivity is NOT your Enemy.

November 9, 2015

Hey Gang!

I'm going to do a little bit of a different kind of post today guys. I'm going to have to get real honest with you for a second. I have been a nerd for a very long time, it is something I am incredibly excited about and I'm constantly binge
watching Television and Film, as a black woman, it is very disconcerting to me when I thoroughly enjoy television shows that don't have anyone who look like me. Yes, it may be a bit selfish, but it's more than that. White people are NOT the only people around, despite how much they want it to be true.
I think it is incredibly depressing to be constantly excluded from things you enjoy because you look different from everyone else, and with the fact that racism is alive and well in well...Everything, It really really irks me when people don't take that into consideration when a person of color voices their opinion about something. We're not pulling the race card and we aren't just spouting Political Correctness Bullshit, this is a serious problem, and I am so completely aggravated that people don't take me seriously.
When I ask why Doctor Who has been around for 50 years, and there hasn't been anyone Asian. People roll their eyes and say oh black people weren't around then, oh its not historically accurate to have anyone of color in our t.v. shows. That if a show comes out and it DOES have Characters of color who do a great job representing their race, then the writers are trying to hard.
News FLASH! They aren't trying to hard, they are simply being realistic. If there are stories that feature characters of color that aren't completely one-sided and resemble reality, wouldn't stories that ONLY include white people be trying to hard? That couldn't possibly be historically accurate right?
Representation is so important! It really is, it is so disenheartening for people to tell us that it is UNFAIR for us to have days and events, such as BlackOut, when if you type beautiful into google, you get nothing but page upon page of White people smiling back at you. The first question anyone has when a character is of color in a new film or television is why are they there? You can deny it all you want, but lets all take a moment to think back about the hooplah people brought up over Fantastic 4's Human Torch wasn't White.
The reason I am even writing about this at all, is that you are beginning to see information and photos for J.K.'s Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. Which is set in America in the 1920's, with no characters of color anywhere. Just like with the Suffragette Movie, I'm guessing the reason will be People of Color haven't been invented yet, which is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. People of Color are everywhere. They were there in London when she wrote the book, They were in the city when they wrote up the script and began to hire actors for the film. We were here long before films with lack of Inclusivity and we will be here long after they flop. We are so tired of hearing that we don't exist for your idea of History. That's NOT historical accuracy, that's your fantasy and THAT ISN'T REALISTIC.
Creators, LET me tell ya a little something. Inclusivity is not your enemy. It literally is NOT your enemy, it is your mother, your father, your best friend, your mailman, and the person that bags your groceries. Inclusivity is all around you, and great literature and art mimic real life. So please, think the next time you decide to create content.

Sigh...
 Until Next Time,

 Stay Nerdy,
