Heart Eyes: Self - Care Playlist

February 8, 2016

Hey Gang!

I wanted to do something sweet and dorky for the week of Valentine's Day. Even though, I've found my special someone doesn't mean that even around this time I don't get a little sad. So I thought to start my Heart Eyes series off right, we have to worry about taking care of ourselves, and then we can be content with drooling over our super hot fictional Significant others, or for those lucky to have them, their real life counterparts.
Here are a few songs I like to hear whenever I need a boost, or I've had a long day. I call this a self-care playlist, because it implies that It is caring for your self. Self Care is just a series of events or things that allow you to calm down from a difficult week or situation, and just to refresh yourself and your psyche.

 Hailee Steinfield: You're Such A

Neon Hitch: Some Like it Hot

Jessi: Ssenunni (This is a huge confidence boost for me. I blast this everywhere.)

Halestorm: Love Bites (So Do I)

SNSD: The Boys ( There is an English Version is you prefer.)

Miss A: I Don't Need A Man

Paramore: Still Into You

Karmin: Walking On The Moon

Cage The Elephant: Come a little Closer

Foster The People: Call It What You Want

Elle Varner: So Fly

G-Dragon:  Who You

Infinite H: Without You (Ft. Zion T (One of my favorite Korean Rappers) )

Avril Lavigne: Everything back but you

Beyonce': Countdown

Anarbor: You and I ( I can literally listen to this on repeat forever and not get tired, its so peppy)

Naomi Pilgrim: No Gun

Coldplay: Hymn For The Weekend (Ft. Beyonce')

Little Mix: Black Magic

Demi Lovato: Confident

Zion T: Eat

Zion T: Babay

and Finally:

Janelle Monae: Electric Lady ( Another Huge Confident Boost, I instantly feel better when I hear this song. Instantly.

What do you do for Self-Care? Listen to music, Write stories, watch movies? Tell me on twitter!
 Stay Nerdy,

Fangirling: Falling in Love with Maps Mizoguchi in 11 issues.

February 5, 2016

Hey Gang!

Hello there, I'm new here and I can't wait for this place to feel at home. I'm bringing over one of my favorite series from Nerdette At Large, My Nerdy lifestyle blog. Fangirling is a series where I choose an influential female Fictional Role model and tell you why she's awesome. Lets go on an eleven issue journey, to discover whats Fangirl worthy about Mia "Maps" Mizoguchi.

Maps Mizoguchi is a character from Gotham Academy. Gotham Academy is a Mystery Adventure Title from DC and features a diverse cast. One of my favorite titles of 2015, it shouldn't be any mystery why I had to write about Maps in the new year.
Maps is the younger sister of Olive's Ex-Boyfriend, Tennis Star Kyle. She is introduced in the first issue and is assigned Olive as her nanny.
She is such an adorable character a great yin to Olive's much more brooding Yang. It is very similar to my childhood pairings of Dick Grayson's cheerful Robin to Bruce Wayne's brooding Batman. One of the biggest things that I like about Maps is her massive imagination and how optimistic she is. Always ready to help Olive on her journey to find out more about her mother, she is the embodiment of curiosity.

Mia Mizoguchi get her nickname "Maps" for her love of cartography and her yen for exploring. She's so curious about everything. Although, she is the youngest character she isn't treated like a baby. After issue one she becomes one of the gang. During the summer, Maps runs her own adventure club, similar to eagle scouts, so she is very knowledgeable about adventuring. I love how no matter what they are going to get into Maps is always prepared.
I absolutely love how nerdy maps is. When she asks the kid at the lunch table if he could draw her Serpents and Spells character. Can we just pause and smile at that? DC has a Dungeons and Dragons counterpart and people play that in Gotham. Maybe it's just me but that brought this huge grin to my face. I'm so in love with her enthusiasm, she doesn't seem to have any reservations about talking to new people and she is so excited about the world around her that it doesn't occur to her to be nervous. Its an attribute I wish I had.
Her lack of nervousness comes in hand, as she is very James Bond Like in recruiting people to begin solving the mysteries of the North Hall. I also enjoy that gender roles don't affect or matter to her. She comes to the dance with her roommate as her date, dressed in a tux. This comic is breath of fresh air for readers who are tired of having a useless female cast or heroine.
One of my absolutely favorite things about Maps is that she is so open to new things. I love all of the cameos she has with the bat family. Red Robin, and Damian, and more later on. If you haven't been reading Gotham Academy make sure to put it in your pull list. Do you enjoy Puzzles or mysteries? You'll love reading Gotham Academy and I'm sure you'll enjoy meeting Maps.

Have you already been reading Gotham Academy? Who are your favorite characters? What were some of your favorite parts? Tell me below in the comments, or lets talk about it on Twitter!

Until Next Time,

Series #17: Jessica Jones (Maybe Spoilers?!)

February 3, 2016

Hey Gang!

Over the weekend I finally finished Jessica Jones!! The reason it took me so long can be broken down into two parts. Part one, the subject matter for Jessica Jones is really heavy. When I write reviews on the blog they are generally of a much fluffier topic. This was one of the first shows that I've watched with a super serious subject matter, anything that I can even begin to connect it to would be Criminal Minds and Pretty Little Liars and both of those are still pretty broad when you think about the positive strides that Jessica makes as a heroine and as a television program.

Part Two would be that even though I needed to take breaks for self care during the heavy moments, I really didn't want it to end. There were only 13 episodes after all, and even though Daredevil didn't really do anything for me, I didn't want it to end. I was milking it for all it was worth.

Here is a few things I absolutely loved about Jessica Jones. I absolutely loved the fact that she was a PI. Yes I know Marvel has a lot of private Investigators, but we know how I feel about solving mysteries. I loved the character development, even though there are only thirteen episodes, the pacing wasn't too fast or too slow, it was almost just right.

As someone who has been a victim of abuse it was refreshing to be represented as a human being and not only as a victim. It was beneficial not only for me but for people who have no understanding of the issues and effects of rape culture in a popular series. Jessica Jones is a real hero. A human being with extraordinary circumstances, but at the end of the day she still had human circumstances.

You saw PTSD, Hatred, the journey to become a better person, self-loathing, the journey for a victim to bging living and loving their life again, explored and expanded. One of the biggest things I loved about the writing for Jessica Jones there was very little victim blaming. One of the corner stones of rape culture is to blame the victim we've all seen this. She shouldn't have been alone, she should have been drinking, she shouldn't have been breathing, or whatever ridiculous thing they're coming up with now. I was so proud to see storytelling done right.

I really disliked Nuke/Simpson. Not only was he incredibly Mysoginistic to Jessica, Constantly talking down to her and ignoring all of her ideas, even though she was stronger than him, the fact that Jess was female and actually stronger than Simpson he was intimidated by her, and therefor felt the need to be condescending. He was a detriment to every mission he was a part of and was an integral part of destroying the evidence that would have saved Hope and allowed Jessica to be able to take Kilgrave down legally.

I was really pleased with the ending. Even though they were superheroes they weren't deities, it wasn't up to them to decide who lived or died. At the end of the day she was only trying to get Justice for the victims of Kilgrave. After 12 episodes of failers, she realized they was only one option left. I am very excited to see where season 2 takes my favorites: Trish, Malcolm, Jess and Luke.

If you finished Jessica Jones, what did you think? Lets talk about how wounderful Jess is on Twitter!

Until Next Time,

Nunjas! Cinema #14: Batman Bad Blood

January 29, 2016

Hey Gang!

As you guys know I am a huge Batman fan, and what better way to celebrate my love Bruce Wayne and his bat family then to review the newest animated Film?! When I saw the trailer, I was pretty excited about the movie when I heard about it and I was literally counting down the days until it came out, and I couldn't wait to watch it! Then Cheyenne from Pretty Brown and Nerdy did a Spoiler free review on Friday, and I didn't want to watch it until I had seen the movie. So I made it top priority to see it over the weekend, besides, who doesn't want to see BatWing AND Batwoman animated? I was all over that.

- I was so surprised that Firefly and Mad Hatter were integral parts of the story, especially since these weren't supervillains.

- Mmmm, Dick Grayson. That chain has got to go! But who the hell is Cory? I was kind of glad that even though it was animated, it wasn't super clean. Its good for art to grow with its audience.

- Can you imagine Gotham without Batman? I can't, especially not for two weeks, 1 day and 15 hours.

- I was so excited about Batwing and Lucious Fox, Yes to DC Inclusion!!

- I was totally in love with Kate's Haircut.

- It always seems to start with Death for the batfamily doesn't it? Kate loses her sister Elizabeth and her Mother Gabrielle.

- Damian and Dick Grayson as Batman? What more could you want?

- I love how everyone knows Dick isn't really batman. It's almost like a running joke.

- Lucious better live or ELSE! How does Heretic know about the Vault?

- Mad Hatter working with Talia?! Heretic definitely has feelings for Talia.

- Batwing looks so badass!!!

- Damian is so adorable while he's getting bandaged up.

- What happened to the mental walls that Bruce is supposed to have set up? Hatter is going through them like swiss cheese! I hate how easy it is for Heretic to just infiltrate everything.

- I'm so in love with Batwing, I need to see more of him.

- Was I the only one creeped out about Heretics feelings about Talia? "I want to know you like he knows you?" Thats his mom dude, thats gross.

- My favorite quote" Nuns with Katana's and M60's? That would make them Nunjas."

- Love that the ceiling collapses on the guy fighting Damian and Bruce. Pure Comedy.

- "Oh my god, Kid, you're mom's got game.

- Talia is flippin crazy for this plan, but you have to get give her some credit, Brain Control?

- Dick finally gets to prove himself against Bruce and gets his arm broken? Not Cool.

- When Mad Hatter looses his head, and Alfred says Bloody Hell, that was crazy!

- Wow! I'm going to need Talia to be locked up for a while after this. "We can always make more?" What the hell is wrong with her?!

- I was so mad at the Taliamobile though, I was glad at her ending.

- I was half shocked and half excited to see the New Batgirl in the movie? I don't know what they're going to do with her in the newer movies but I'm hoping it will be great. She looked awesome animated.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR TEEN TITANS VS. JUSTICE LEAGUE, WHO WILL WIN?!

Cinema #13: Spectre (Spoilers)

January 25, 2016

Hey Gang!

After that double whammy of adorable anime short film reviews, I have a little bond for you today. I had just gotten so inspired that I thought I would give you a few more film reviews. I've been watching a lot of movies lately, I've been on a bit of a knitting binge. I've been watching Bond since I was young and I was always interested in the spy aspect and gadgets of bond. Although, my favorite Bond is Sean Connery. My favorite characters are the ones holding him together; M, Moneypenny (New + Old) and Q (New and Old, but I'm PRETTY FOND of the new one. *wink wink*)

- Can I just say that I fell in love with the Octopus that is Spectre's Mascot.

- Is Senior Scarra the same person as the Pale King?

- Thank goodness that couch was there, Bond Had to know they would have Backup, why didn't he have a better plan?

- That helicopter would have made an amazing amusement park ride.

- Moriarity as Max Danby, C. I knew he was up to no good the minute he came onto the screen. I didn't like him instantly, didn't like the way he treated Q. If Q stands for Quartermaster, than what does C stand for?

- Never knew Bond was adopted, but I supposed that makes sense with the story setup in Skyfall, since both of his parents passed and were buried there.

- Who is 009? Obviously not as good as 007, otherwise, he'd have had his car for his mission already!

- Can I say how much I absolutely love that Q has cats? He doesn't necessarily look like a cat guy, but now that I know he is, he's even more amazing *sigh*

- I was a little confused about the wife. He had sex with her, promised to save her, and then I'm pretty sure he abandoned her...

- Madeline was SO SO perfect for James. Who better to understand an assassin, then the daughter of one?

- Also, can we talk about 007's pain tolerance level, because holy shit, that guy was drilling holes in his head. I would have FREAKED OUT!

- I can't even imagine having someone so obsessed with me the way Franz was with James. To murder everyone in your life? Make sure that every single relationship NEVER works out? To spend their whole life making sure that you never enjoy yours?

I thoroughly enjoyed the music, the opening by Sam Smith has been on repeat for a while and the action definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. However, I definitely feel like it is a re-see because I feel like even though I always take notes during movies, I missed some important key items. I got enough to understand the story, but I just feel like something feel through the gaps. I would definitely go see it again, and I enjoyed it enough to write a review.

Have you seen Spectre? Or any other Bond Movies? Lets talk about them on Twitter!
